Our Week Ahead

This week in Phonics, we will learn the Phase 3 digraph sounds – short oo and long oo and the tricky word - my. We will continue to practise writing the phase 2 tricky words (I, no, go, the, to) using our look - cover - spell - check method. We will point to letters of the alphabet while singing the alphabet song and begin to learn the letter names. Click on the link below to practise the names at home.

Our focused for handwriting this week is to focus on writing our first / last name using cursive script.

This week during our Literacy sessions we will be reading the traditional tale - The Gingerbread Man. We will create a story map and use this to retell the story using words and actions. Within continuous provision there will be lots of props to encourage pupils to engage in story telling with their peers. On Tuesday, Mr Simpson will be joining us for another storytelling session. During these sessions we work together to create a whole class story and then act it out.

In Maths, we will look at different 2D shapes and talk about their properties, and what is the same/different. We will use the shapes in a tangram to create different pictures.

During our topic afternoon we will be thinking about the past and learning about homes long ago. We will look at some old and new household objects and talk about how they are similar / different. Within continuous provision we will experience an old fashioned wash day!

Thursday is St Patrick’s day! We will learn about St Patrick and how this day is celebrated. Click on the link below to watch a short video about St Patrick's Day.
