Opportunities to meet new friends….. · Oportunidad de conocer a nuevos amigos
In Primary this week students launched the opportunity to meet new friends with our Friend Bench. The friend bench was a creation of a girl not at BSM, who had originally thought that she wanted anyone who felt sad or lonely at break or lunch to be able to meet new friends. By sitting on the Bench it signals to others that they would like the opportunity to meet friends, have a chat and may need cheering up. Not only does this initiative develop kindness and thoughtfulness it also develops our core value of communication.
Esta semana los alumnos de Primaria lanzaron su iniciativa del "Banco de los Amigos", un punto en el que conocer a otros niños. El Banco de los Amigos es la creación de una niña de fuera de BSM, que en un principio lo presentó para que quien se sintiera triste o solo durante los recreos tuviera la oportunidad de conocer a nuevos amigos. Cuando alguien se sienta en el Banco envía una señal a los demás de que le gustaría conocer a nuevos amigos, tener una charla o recibir ánimos. No sólo se desarrolla la gentileza y el pensar en los demás, sino también uno de nuestros valores principales: la comunicación.
Opportunities to visit new countries and cultures….. · Oportunidad de visitar nuevos países y culturas
This week for the first time in the school’s history, students in Year 12 are visiting Japan; having a trip of a lifetime, experiencing new cultures and amazing places. This incredible opportunity was conceived by Mr Jagdeep Dhaliwal, Head of Humanities, supported by Mari Carmen Sánchez. So popular is this trip we already have students who have signed up for the trip for next year. This week they have visited Harajuku, Shibuya, Meiji Shrine (Shinto), the Tokyo metropolitan building, Aoyama High School, Temples and Shrines of Kyoto, Himeji, Hiroshima and Miyajima Island. Please look at our Facebook posts this week that share the amazing week they have had.
Por primera vez en la historia del colegio, esta semana los alumnos de Year 12 están visitando Japón. Es el viaje de toda una vida, una forma de experimentar el contacto con una nueva cultura y lugares increíbles. Mr Jagdeep Dhaliwal, Jefe del Departamento de Humanidades, concibió este maravilloso proyecto, con el apoyo de Mª Carmen Sánchez. Este viaje se ha hecho tan popular que ya tenemos alumnos inscritos para el del próximo año. Esta semana han visitado Harajuku, Shibuya, Meiji Shrine (Shinto), el edificio metropolitano de Tokio, Himeji, Hiroshima y la Isla de Miyajima. Buddy Exchange Programme
Applications are open for the Buddy Exchange Programme. As a reminder students must be aged between 14-17 years old, however, we are not recommending it for Year 11. It is a one-month reciprocal exchange between ISP students. All Buddy Exchange families must host the visiting student in their home. This year ISP has increased the number from one student per school to four students. Please encourage your son or daughter to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Tenemos el plazo de solicitud abierto para el Programa de Intercambio. Les recordamos que los alumnos deben estar en Year 10 o Year 12. Es un intercambio recíproco entre alumnos de colegios ISP. Todas las familias que participen en el intercambio deben alojar al alumno de visita durante un mes, en casa. Este año ISP ha aumentado el número de participantes por colegio, de uno a cuatro alumnos. Les animamos a que sus hijos tomen parte en esta maravillosa oportunidad. Target Setting Day · Jornada de los Objetivos para Alumnos
This week all students and their parents from Nursery right up to Year 13 have had the opportunity to meet either their class or form teacher and discuss their targets for the year. Target setting is very important as students need to be able to aspire and have a focus on what they need to do to get better. The targets should be smart ones, specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. Parents also need to be aware as it allows you to be able to better support your children. Targets may well change and adapt throughout the year. This week 73% of parents attended the Target Setting Day.
Esta semana todos los alumnos y sus familias, de Nursery a Year 13, han tenido la oportunidad de reunirse con su profesor o tutor para hablar de los objetivos del curso. El establecimiento de objetivos es muy importante porque los alumnos tienen que centrarse en lo que deben mejorar. Los objetivos deben ser "SMART": "specific", "measurable", "achievable", "realistic" y "time-bound". Los padres también tienen que estar al tanto, ya que les permite apoyar a sus hijos. Los objetivos pueden cambiar a lo largo del año para adaptarse a los cambios de los alumnos. En esta ocasión hemos tenido una asistencia del 73% de las familias al "Target Setting Day".
Secondary House Auction · Subasta de Secundaria
We are really excited about the upcoming House Event for Secondary - The House Auction! We are asking students to consider bidding for opportunities to beat their teacher at FIFA or choose their own 5-a-side team to take on the teachers. Other possibilities are choosing a song for a teacher to sing at the Christmas assembly? Or better yet, be a headteacher for the day and sit in Mrs Lee-Allan's office. As we said, this will be a FUN and interesting event!
Estamos encantados con el evento relacionado con las Casas que van a tener los alumnos de Secundaria: ¡la Subasta de las Casas! Hemos pedido a los alumnos que hagan sus ofertas para batir a sus profesores en FIFA o elegir su propio equipo para enfrentarse a los profesores. Otras opciones serían que elijan una canción para que un determinado profesor la interprete en la Asamblea de navidad. O lo mejor de todo, ser directores por un día y ocupar el despacho de Mrs Lee-Allan. Como hemos mencionado, es un evento interesante y DIVERTIDO.
As we are holding the auction to raise money for Fundacion Harena, we are asking for a one euro donation from students to watch the event and would really love it if our students came prepared to bid on the items that students and teachers are giving away. (Note: Students will not need to bring in money on the day as they can bid on the day and pay later instead).
El motivo de este evento es recaudar fondos para Fundación Harena, por lo que solicitamos 1€ de donación para que los alumnos asistan al evento y nos encantaría que vinieran preparados para hacer ofertas por las acciones propuestas por alumnos y profesores. (Nota: no es necesario que los alumnos vengan con dinero para hacer las ofertas ese mismo día. Pueden participar en la subasta y pagar después).

Primary School Choir · Coro de Primaria
The Primary school choir will start on 6th November and will take place every Wednesday between 1.05 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. Any student in Years 1 to 6 wishing to join the choir should speak to Mr Bernal in the Music room.
El Coro de Primaria va a empezar el 6 de Noviembre y las sesiones se desarrollarán todos los Miércoles de 13:05 a 13:30 horas. Cualquier alumno de Year 1 a Year 6 que quiera unirse al coro puede hablar con Mr Bernal, en el Aula de Música.
Parlez Vous Français?
Our Year 8, 9 and 10 French students recently enjoyed a visit to the Cine Albéniz in Málaga who were showing films in French with Spanish subtitles to celebrate the XXV French Film Festival of Málaga. Year 8 watched a film called "Comme des garçons" whilst Years 9 and 10 watched “Premier de la Classe”. It was an excellent opportunity for the students to experience what happens in a film festival in the language they are studying.
Nuestros alumnos de Year 8, Year 9 y Year 10 de Francés han ido recientemente al Cine Albéniz de Málaga, donde han disfrutado de una muestra de cine francés con subtítulos en español, en el marco del XXV Festival de Cine Francés de Málaga. Year 8 vio una película llamada "Comme des garçons", Year 9 y Year 10 pudieron ver "Premier de la Classe". Fue una excelente oportunidad para que los alumnos experimentaran lo que ocurre en un festival donde se emplea un idioma que están estudiando.
A Level Media: Isabella, Mara & Sophie

Isabella, Mara y Sophie, tres de nuestras alumnas de Year 12, nos comentan el trabajo que están realizando en su asignatura de Media de A Level.
We are studying A Level Media and recently, we have been working on the production of a Swede. A Swede is a term used for creating a parody of a scene from a specific film and filming it in a way which is intentionally amateurish and of bad quality, thereby giving it a touch of humour.
Cursamos esta asignatura y recientemente hemos estado trabajando en la producción de un Swede. Un Swede es un termino utilizado para clasificar una producción cinematográfica que de forma intencionada es amateur y de mala calidad. Esto debido a que la meta de dicho termino es el de hacer una parodia de una película en específico y darle un toque humorístico.
We decided to create a Swede based on the horror film 'IT'. When we finished filming, we published it on Youtube and Instagram. We also created a blog to document our progress and have put up posters throughout the school promoting the film.
Decidimos hacer un Swede basado en la película de miedo ‘IT’. Al terminar lo publicamos en varias plataformas: Youtube e Instagram. Además creamos un blog para documentar nuestro progreso y la creación del vídeo. Por último pusimos por todo el colegio pósters promocionando nuestro Swede.
Hallowe'en Fun! · Diversión de Halloween
After last year's success, two Year 11 students, Jorge and Daniel have once again decided to organise a fun Hallowe'en activity on Tuesday, 29th October. Year 6s will have the chance to visit the Haunted House in the second half of the Primary lunch hour and KS3 & 4 students will go during their lunch hour.
Tras el éxito del año pasado, dos de nuestros alumnos de Year 11, Jorge y Daniel, han vuelto a organizar una actividad divertida para Halloween, el próximo Martes 29 de Octubre. Los alumnos de Year 6 podrán visitar la Casa Encantada durante la segunda mitad de la hora del almuerzo de Primaria y KS3+KS4 pueden asistir durante su hora de la comida.
A one Euro donation would be appreciated which will go towards Fundación Harena's initiative to buy electricity packs for the homes of the children who attend their nursery in Ethiopia.
Se agradecerá 1€ de donación, que se destinará a la iniciativa de Fundación Harena de comprar equipos de electricidad para hogares de niños en edad de ir a guardería en el proyecto que la ONG tiene en Etiopía.
Why study Politics? · ¿Por qué estudiar Ciencias Políticas?
Politics is everywhere, it affects our lives on a daily basis. Examples at the moment include Trump in America, Brexit and the crisis in Catalunya. I am tremendously excited to be teaching this new subject at A Level. Students will learn about both UK and US politics, as well as about differing political ideologies.
La política está en todas partes, afecta a nuestras vidas a diario. Ejemplos de ello hoy día son Trump en Estados Unidos, el Brexit y la crisis de Cataluña. Estoy tremendamente entusiasmado de enseñar esta nueva asignatura de A Level. Los alumnos van a aprender de política en Reino Unido y Estados Unidos y también de distintas ideologías políticas.
The course will enable students to better understand what is happening in the world today and to develop both their analytical and evaluative skills. They will have to be able to support an argument backed up by firm rationale. A Level politics can lead to a career in politics, journalism, business or working in international organisations such as the UN and the EU.
La asignatura permitirá a los alumnos a entender mejor lo que está ocurriendo en el mundo hoy día y a desarrollar sus habilidades analíticas y valorativas. Podrán sostener y defender sus argumentos basándose en motivos de peso racionales. El A Level de Ciencias Políticas puede servir para acceder a carreras en Ciencias Políticas, Periodismo, Económicas o a trabajar en organizaciones como Naciones Unidad y la Unión Europea.

EYFS & Primary Dressing up Day for Hallowe'en. Students can come to school in their chosen Hallowe'en costume. There will be some Halloween themed activities taking place in the classroom alongside the normal timetable for the day.
Día de disfraces de Halloween para los alumnos de Infantil y Primaria. Los niños pueden venir con su disfraz de Halloween favorito. Habrá algunas actividades relacionadas con la fecha en clase, además del horario normal de clases.
Secondary Students can come dressed with crazy hair and face paint to celebrate Hallowe'en if they wish but they must wear school uniform and they should bring a 1€ donation for the Fundación Harena.
Los alumnos de Secundaria pueden venir con el pelo y la cara pintados o vestidos al gusto para celebrar Halloween si así lo desean. Pero deben ir con el uniforme del colegio y traer 1€ para Fundación Harena.
Half-Term Holiday · Vacaciones de Half Term
School will be closed for half-term Wednesday 30th, Thursday 31st October and Friday 1st November 2019. When term restarts on Monday 4th November, students should return in WINTER UNIFORM.
No hay clases con motivo del Half Term durante el Miércoles 30 de Octubre, Jueves 31 de Octubre y Viernes 1 de Noviembre. El trimestre se reanuda el Lunes 4 de Noviembre. Y recuerden, los alumnos deben venir con el UNIFORME DE INVIERNO.
