And The Beat Goes On: Richard J. Watson | Sept. 2–Oct. 23

This exhibit features works by the Philadelphia artist Richard J. Watson, currently artist-in-residence and exhibitions manager at the African American Museum in Philadelphia. Incorporating found objects and materials in his mixed media collage, his work resonates with his personal history and experience. “In so many ways, I feel that I live my life much like the composition of a piece of music. Tones, rhythms, cadence, volume, and movement are terms that could easily describe both.” Watson’s art makes connections between past and present, the personal and universal, individual and community. Rooted in his own experiences in the civil rights movement, Watson creates art as an agent of social transformation.

Summertime at LVCA

In July we held our Art Club for local young people. Projects were a watercolor landscape collage and watercolor birch trees. Thank you to our team of art instructors: Cindy Templin, Becky Daubert, and Rachel Strauser. Art Club was provided through the Arts For All Partnership: a partnership between the Cultural Enrichment Fund and the Greater Harrisburg Community Foundation, a regional foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. Look for our Art Club exhibit at Lebanon Community Library later this month.

We've gotten a good start on our mosaic mural “Where there is art, there is life” to be installed on our building in downtown Lebanon. We're currently on a break due to summer schedules. Our plan is to re-start later in August. Updates will be posted on our Facebook page.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

LVCA is starting to expand our programs and activities. We're looking for volunteers and people interested in joining the board. Volunteers could help out by being available at events, teaching a class, hosting on First Friday's, or organizing the office space. Serving on LVCA's board is a unique opportunity to get involved with a dynamic and very hands-on community organization. The board members work together to oversee the daily business operations, develop and support new events and programs, and are available for First Friday events and gallery open hours. If you're interested or have questions, please send an email to lebanonartscouncil@gmail.com

Collage Lounge

Collage is a technique of art creation, primarily used in the visual arts, but in music too, by which art results from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. (wikipedia)

LVCA will provide all the supplies, but feel free to bring your own magazines, scissors, glue, markers, and images. BYOB

The session is $12 for non-members and $6 for members. Payment accepted at event. Or go to our square site to pay online.
