Football Tops Amherst 10-7, Ends 22-yr Streak
It had been 22 years since the Colby Football team had topped Amherst College. In years where the Mules sported a 7-1 record (2000 NESCAC Champions, 2005 Runners Up), the lone loss each year had been at the hands of Amherst. The 10-7 victory in Amherst, Mass. thrilled the history buffs and began a new chapter on the matchup.
The defense of the Mules provided spark after spark, with four sacks and three interceptions of the Amherst signal caller. All three interceptions (two by Brett Holmes, one by Will Nipon) thwarted Mammoth drives in the red zone, with Holmes' second pick coming at the goal line with 23 seconds remaining in the game.
Senior kicker Moises Celaya put the Mules up for good halfway through the fourth quarter, hitting his second 38-yard field goal of the season.
Colby is now 1-1 on the season, good for a tie for fourth place in the NESCAC.

On Sunday, the Mules hosted previously unbeaten University of Maine at Fort Kent, sending the Bengals home with their first loss of the season 1-0. The lone goal (Charlotte White) was only the second UMFK had surrendered all season.
The Women's Soccer team is currently 3-2-1 and tied for 8th in the NESCAC.
