September Blooms at Tryon Palace

Happy September! The gardens are full of blooming perennials and we are switching many of our annual display beds to mums this month! We've got lots of great garden events coming onsite this fall! The butterflies are back in action and the bees are busy buzzing on all their favorite flowers. The Stanly Garden is a great place to find them on the Balloon Milkweed and Pentas! There are vegetables aplenty in the kitchen garden with lots of interesting heirloom varieties and many fruits on the way! The Wilderness Garden provides a great shady spot to enjoy a breeze off the Trent River between your other more formal garden stops in the Latham and Kellenberger Gardens. You can book a private tour with a few of your friends and fellow gardeners by contacting 252-639-3524 or reservations@tryonpalace.org.

Join us for our Sept 17 garden lecture at 10:30! This lecture includes the FIRST look of what we'll have at plant sale!

Tryon Palace will host the September Garden Lecture, Saturday September 17, 2022, “Tough Plants of ENC & Trade Specials”, featuring Jennifer Knight, community gardener and owner of Knightscapes Enterprises, a design/ build landscape firm, and Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Gardens and Greenhouse Manager”. Dont forget- Fall Plant Sale is October 7 &8, 2022 from 9am-5pm each day! The gardens will also be open free all weekend.

Fall Plant Sale is October 7 & 8 from 9am-5pm

If you’re looking for an outside hobby and way to give back to your community, consider joining us as a garden volunteer! We are looking for Master Gardeners, Horticulturists, Garden Enthusiasts, General Yard Workers, and Carpenters. Some background in gardening is great but none is necessary, just a willingness to learn. We are looking for volunteers for pruning, planting, raking, mulching, watering, weeding, fence and trellis repair. If that sounds like your cup of tea, please contact me at hadley.cheris@ncdcr.gov.

We hope to see you soon! Happy Gardening,

Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Gardens and Greenhouse Manager
