ERODOTO EROsive Dynamics Of The Squillace submarine canyOn

ERODOTO Cruise Report

Scientific Discipline: Deep Sea Research, Geology, Geophysics

Research Area: Squillace Canyon, Italy

Research Vessel: RV Aegaeo

PI Name and Affiliation: Dr Silvia Ceramicola, OGS, Italy

Dates: 01 - 12 July 2023

The overall aim of ERODOTO is to gain a clear understanding of the mass wasting and erosive processes that regulate the headwalls retreat in the direction of the coast, happening today, in canyon headwalls and thus assess their potential geohazards to coastal areas and infrastructures (railways, highway, harbour etc…).

ERODOTO proposes an innovative integrated methodological approach to analyse and quantify the active dynamics of a shelf-incising, close-to-shore submarine canyon in order to set a model for geohazards assessment and risk management.
