We acted as historians to research the facilities and accommodation available to each class of passengers, as well as the statistics regarding their survival rate.

We then learnt and practised a variety of writing techniques which would help us to compose our letter: formal language, active and passive voice, colons for a list and semi colons.

Here are the outcomes!

Topic

This half term we have had a history focus; we have been learning about the Titanic. First of all, we each received a letter inviting us to a Titanic voyage experience. The children were given a 1st, 2nd or 3rd-class ticket. 1st-class passengers were allowed to board first and were treated to time on the iPads, a comfortable chair and complimentary sweets and juice. 2nd-class passengers were given a comfortable cushion and a complimentary sweet. However, 3rd-class passengers were made to wait until last to board and had to be checked to ensure they wouldn’t harm other passengers. Unfortunately, they had to sit on benches all day, with no luxuries at all.

We then learnt about primary and secondary sources of information, and worked as historians to decide whether or not they were reliable.

We also worked on our understanding of chronology to place important events, regarding the Titanic, on a timeline.

We were have learnt about the circulatory system and we were fortunate enough to dissect the heart of a variety of animals.

We have also learnt the rules of a competitive game and applied the skills we have learnt to a game situation.
