Where are these two communities?
If you are looking for wider spaces, and a place to own a plot of land larger than the typical 5,000 square foot parcels in Santa Clarita, Acton is a fine place to start looking. Most property in Acton, located east of Canyon Country, is doled out in 1/2 acre plots or more. Acton's population is estimated at 8,000.
Homes there can be all over the map in terms of size and price, and amenities are scarce compared to Santa Clarita. A majority of the homes for sale in Acton are ranch-style homes that suit the needs of equestrian and outdoor-based homeowners.
METROLINK STOPS HERE
The old-west themed Metrolink station located in Acton is a reminder that while Acton is nearly 50 miles away from downtown Los Angeles, the train can have you there in under an hour.
FORMER GOLD MINE? OR CURRENT GOLD MINE?
In 1873, a camp grew to support the building of the rail line from the Southern Pacific. The Red Rover gold mine located in the nearby hills brought so much wealth to the area, that Acton was briefly considered to be a possible replacement for Sacramento as the state capital! The mixture of old west and new still remains, as you can still literally tie off your horse at a hotel in town. Real estate in the area fetches golden prices here as well. In 1889, Acton's first hotel and its first saloon, the 49er was opened, and it is still open for business today.
There are three schools in Acton: Meadowlark Elementary School, High Desert Middle School, and Vasquez High School. Acton is part of the unincorporated portion of Los Angeles County and is in the 5th Supervisory District. At the local level, the community is represented by the Acton Town Council, an advisory group of citizens made up of 7 members.
