Ulysses S. Grant was Born in Point Pleasant, Ohio on April 27, 1822.

Ulysses S. Grant was born Hiram Ulysses Grant to Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson Grant. His father was a Tanner and business man. His family moved to Georgetown, Ohio after he was born. He was shy and reserved as a child. He was also a good horseman as a kid. He also hated the idea of working in his fathers tannery business .

Ulysses S. Grant married Julia Dent in 1848 and had four children with her.

Ulysses S. Grant faced many challenges through out his life. When he was at West Point he was at the bottom of his class and planned to leave after his mandatory four years. He struggled being apart from his family and was involved in several failed business ventures trying to get them closer to them. He began to drink and got a bad reputation because of it.

Ulysses S. Grant resigned from the army after allegations of heavy drinking. After resigning he had trouble finding work and it one point was selling firewood on the side of the road. Despite all of this the Civil War was probably his biggest challenge.

He was very important to history because he led the union to win multiple major battles and to win the war over all.

He eventually became the 18th president of the United states. He ratified the 15th amendment, which allowed African American men to vote and he established the National Parks Service.

Because of his presidency and his great leadership in the Civil War he is very important to the history of this country.

The part of Ulysses S. Grant's life that I admire the most is how he got through so much rough stuff like being apart from his family and having trouble finding work, but despite these things he ended up playing a major role in history and helped make a difference for the best.
