Pasture Valley Newsletter August - October 2022

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises." - Romans 15:13

school outings

The high-school Gr 8 and 9s have been going on a lot of school trips recently. This time, they went to see the oldest church in eSwatini, which is right next the Mahamba border. They also got the visit the border post to learn about how it works. The staff were very kind and showed us all around.

building again!

More building is happening over at the STREEC site, this time a testing centre for the students is going up! This is so that they can graduate with an accredited certificate at the end of their course.

sunday hikes

Sunday afternoon hikes have become a bit of a tradition at Pasture Valley. Uncle John often takes the boys out hiking in the area. This time, Make and Babe took the Sunday School and some of the older kids too on a hike into the Magic Forest.

WORCESTER TEAM

It was our first time having a team from Worcester, South Africa! We're grateful these kind people could come to spend some time with us. They got stuck into helping with the never-ending maintenance (including painting David House), teaching and helping with the school, girls' camp, and they also participated in the Pre- school workshop. We are grateful for their generous hearts and feel so encouraged by their joy and willingness to serve.

AN IMAGE OF IMAGE

Speaking of teams, we are so proud of Image, who is part of OM South Africa's REACH programme in Pretoria (aka. Missionary Discipleship Training). She has been learning so much about different cultures, and about God. It is wonderful to hear her testimonies and stories about what God is doing in her life.

GIRLS' CAMP

The girls' bible study went on a camp this past while, to Mr Meyer's Farm in Nhlangano. It was such a beautiful setting, and a really blessed time together. The Worcester girls could also join us. It was good girl-time in the midst of such beautiful scenery. Of course, we didn't want the boys to feel too left out, so they went on a fishing trip too!

MOZAMBIQUE TRIP

These two special girls joined Make and Babe for a road trip to Mozambique! They got to spend a little time on the beach and enjoy some fresh sea air. Then, to keep them awake on the way home, we stopped at Mabuda Farm for a good strong cup of caffeine (coffee).

DRAMA PROJECT

Some of the Pasture Valley Children were invited to attend a fun day at Amitofo Care Centre, where they could experience some of the Chinese culture and get to know some new people too. They had an absolute blast! It was a great opportunity for the kids to get out a little and get more exposure to life outside of Pasture Valley.

Eleanor scripted and directed a beautiful play on the famous story of "Treasure Island" for the grade 8 and 9 Drama class. We are so proud of all the kids who put on a brilliant show, and impressed with Eleanor's artistic talent too!

FOOD PARCELS

The PV team together with the Carr family did a special trip to Zombodzwe and delivered food parcels to the mommies and children there. Mr Ngwenya, who is the headman for the area, has a heart for helping his community and frequently brings referrals to PV for assistance. The most important part though, of course, is that the people are spiritually fed.

SUPPORT GROUP

The support group for mothers of children with disabilities continues with the strong guidance from Make and Aunty Princess. The group has now grown so much that we have needed to split it into two. We are happy that more women and children are being supported, and pray that God would continue giving them the strength and perseverance that they need as they love and care for their precious children.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  1. For Anele as she embarks on the new journey of motherhood. That God will give her wisdom and courage.
  2. For Melusi, Kheto, and Sihle as they have needed to leave Pasture Valley. Please pray for God to soften and work in their hearts and that they would grow into godly young men.
  3. For the country of eSwatini, all the violence that is occurring. For peace amongst the people, and for protection of PV in the midst of it all.
  4. For all the vulnerable people in eSwatini.
  5. For the staff and volunteers at PV. It has been a very difficult time this past while. For perseverance, hope, and strength.

thank you

We would like so say a special thank-you to all those that have supported us in prayer and otherwise over this past time. We are incredibly grateful, and we pray God's blessing over you, just as you have blessed us.
