CRA Newsletter 20.05.2022 Half Term 5 - 20th May 2022

Principal's Update

We have had a good week in the academy starting with an interesting assembly on how we learn, and the importance of taking note of our cognitive load. This was expertly led by Miss Burrell and was a useful reminder for all. Knowing how we learn supports us to be able to approach our learning and revision in the most effective way.

Year 11 have been timetabled with two-hour subject revision sessions the day of the exam or the day before each exam. This means their subject teacher can really fine tune their last bit of revision. They also have ten minutes before each exam on the day for teachers to remind them of key vocabulary and answer any last-minute questions about the exam procedure. The students have been saying that these have been really useful.

Year 11 made a good start with their exam sessions, but I am sure they are looking forward to the weekend for a bit of respite. Please encourage them to get the balance right between having a break and preparing fully for next week's exams so they do as well as they can.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Mrs Jones - Principal

CRA Values

This week in assembly Ms Burrell referenced our 7 C's of Resilience, in particular Choice not Chance. She referenced it in relation to memory and that making the choice to be attentive in class, means you are able to absorb information into the working memory.

Choice not Chance is such an important one of the 7 C's of Resilience and we talk about it in terms of Character all the time and the fact that good character is what you do when no one is looking.

Neville Holt Opera

Following the success of a ‘ free tickets for under 18’s’ scheme at the Neville Holt Opera in 2021, we are delighted to be able to confirm that they are continuing with it this year.

Thinking Ahead – My Future, My Choice

Attention Year 8 & Year 9!

  • What are your future plans & career possibilities?
  • What plans to do you have after you have completed your GCSEs?
  • Do you plan to go on to further/higher education? If so what courses might you study?
  • What career ideas do you have for the future at the moment?

In year 7, 8 and 9 you will be learning new skills and knowledge that will give you the confidence to help you plan your next steps. This process starts with your careers education in school which will encourage you to think about your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. You will also start to make some important decisions that could influence your future career path as you will be choosing your subjects to study for GCSE. This process will begin for all Year 9 students early next year.

Each week we will show you examples of the various careers linked to the subject you are studying. This week’s career idea is ‘Jobs related to Travel and Tourism'

Table Talk

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, statesman, theatre director, and critic. His works include plays, poetry and literature.

We particularly like this quote as it relates to our Character plan and the way we hope to support our students to develop good character; by thinking about how their words and actions may be perceived by others.

We would love you to discuss over the dinner table a time where you have regretted your actions or thought about the words you used and wished you could change them.

Year 11 Focus

I would like to congratulate the Y11 students on how well they have begun the examination season, they have been organised and well prepared, followed instructions well and worked hard during revision sessions. Please see the table below for next weeks exams to support them in at home revision.

The importance of a having a healthy breakfast before exmas

We have noticed that some students are arriving in the morning with sugary snacks as breakfast and or are eating them on the bus. This is not ideal whilst sitting exams, fueling the body correctly prior to an exam can have a significant impact on performance in the exam.

Please could you address this with your children, make sure they are having a nutritious breakfast and come to school with a full clear water bottle that they can take into the exam?

Year 11 Work Experience Week

27th June until 30th June 2022

Finding a work experience placement can be challenging. Students were reminded before Easter to ask family and friends for ideas and advice. Making speculative enquiries in a professional manner to a business/organisation in person, or via social media, letter etc

It is important for students to have a clear idea (and confirmed by business/organisation) of where they intend to go for work experience very soon..
