So, what’s the difference between Traditional Manufacturing and Advanced Manufacturing?

Traditional Manufacturing

The process of converting raw materials into a finished ready-to-sell product through the use of manual and/or mechanized transformational techniques.

An example:

Metal machining (subtractive manufacturing) includes several steps turning, milling, and drilling on separate machines to produce a finished part.

Advanced Manufacturing

Rapidly integrates science and technological processes into manufacturing to assist companies in their efforts to produce products more efficiently.

An Example:

3D printing (additive manufacturing) allows for quick prototype production with one machine.
