Content Info For The Week

Math (Carver, Beasley, and Meeks):

Carver: Students will continue learning and comparing linear relationships. Students will also continue to manipulate equations from standard form into slope-intercept form so students can graph equations.

Meeks: Students will be comparing rate of change (slope) from graphs, tables, and charts. Also, students will begin writing equations in slope-intercept form from word problems.

No homework this week.

Algebra I (Meeks):

Students will be constructing graphs provided a word problem. They will determine if the graph is increasing, decreasing or constant. Also, students will be working with literal equations solving for a specific variable.

No homework this week.

Read 180 (Styron and Barker):

This week students in R180 will use topic vocabulary and generate examples to deepen understanding of a central concept. Additionally, students will read the graphic novel A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle and will closely examine illustrations and dialogue to analyze characters, analyze how illustrations can help explain ideas and events, analyze how text and illustrations work together in a graphic novel, and finally analyze what is clearly stated in the text and infer what is not clearly stated.

ELA (MacArthur and Lee):

This week in 8th grade ELA, students will continue their study of our in-class novel, Hidden Figures. We will analyze the text for elements of nonfiction writing, text structure, author's purpose, etc. Students will have a quiz over Chapters 1-7 on Wednesday, February 9th.

9th Grade Lit (Lee):

This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will finish reading our classroom novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. We will wrap up our analysis with an examination of characters' growth and change, a look at the plot development over the course of the novel, and a final summation of who the "mockingbirds" of the story really were. Students will begin preparing to write their analytical essay next week after watching the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird. We will take a quiz over novel vocabulary on Friday, February 11th.

Science (Winkworth and Herndon):

Students will learn to develop an understanding of how waves interact with matter. Students will learn how different mediums affect waves. This understanding will help them interpret the reflection, absorption, refraction, and transmission of waves. Students observe these interactions all the time every day, even when they sleep. Students will learn the natural occurrences and practical applications of wave interactions with matter.

Social Studies (MacArthur and Collier):

This week in Mr. MacArthur’s class, we will continue to work through our class novel Hidden Figures as students prepare for their first novel quiz on Wednesday. This will cover chapters 1-7. Additionally, we will start analyzing how different mediums affect the work authors create as we prepare for our next performance task.
