Galley Hill Primary School Newsletter 16th October 2020

The half term continues to go from strength to strength, with the children creating some wonderful pieces of work and showing the resilience and strength to continue to the end of week 7. There are a few tired children around who definitely deserve a restful weekend. This week in Assembly, we discussed Mary Seacole. We continue to look at influential Black people through history and the important role they have played to fight injustice, show true courage and make a difference to the world we live in today.

School life

This week Reception have been innovating their own version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have worked really hard in phonics and have now all brought home a reading book. We have been talking about more or fewer in maths. The children have also been talking about their homes. The children have been drawing pictures of their homes and building them in the construction.

Year 2 loved making innovations to the diary map! Lots of enthusiasm and brilliant ideas.

The Covid-19 crisis is expected to put a bigger demand on Cleveland Fire Brigade’s annual winter Stay Safe and Warm campaign.

The campaign provides a free home assessment and if required there is an option to borrow heaters and other equipment such as thermal blankets or flasks. The Brigade can direct residents to advice on managing fuel bills, signpost to where funding is available and make referrals for free boiler repairs or replacements where necessary.

Stay Safe and Warm is a free service to anyone living in Cleveland and struggling to keep warm this winter. The Brigade can also people in touch with other agencies if further support is required.

Last year more than 700 people were supported and more than 500 heaters and other equipment were provided.

To contact the Stay Safe and Warm team call 01429 874063 or go to www.clevelandfire.gov.uk/ssaw for more information.

Let's Localise

I have had the joy of speaking to the people at Let's Localise over the past couple of weeks to see how we can continue to build links with the local community as well as local businesses.

Their mission is to help local people come together to support schools and give every student the best chance of success by combining the best of community action with the organisational power of an online platform.

To begin with, they will be holding an online Quiz on November 19th, where it would be wonderful to see as many families take part as possible. The details can be found here:
