Holga & Diana Inspired Double Exposure, LIght Leaks, Vignetting

What is a Holga camera?

The Holga is a medium format 120 film camera, made in Hong Kong, known for its low-fidelity aesthetic. The Holga's low-cost construction and simple meniscus lens often yields pictures that display vignetting, blur, light leaks, and other distortions. The camera's limitations have brought it a cult following among some photographers, and Holga photos have won awards and competitions in art and news photography

What is a Diana camera?

The Diana camera is a plastic-bodied toy camera using 120 rollfilm and 35 mm film. The camera has a simple plastic meniscus lens. The Diana frequently suffers from light leaks, film advance issues, and other problems.

Project Requirements:

  • Create four - 6" x 6" 300 dpi files.
  • Use a portrait and a texture photo to create a double exposure.
  • Each image must have... [light leaks & vignetting]
  • At least one image must be sepia toned.

What is sepia toning?

Sepia is a form of photographic print toning – a tone added to a black and white photograph in the darkroom to “warm” up the tones (though since it is still a monochromatic image it is still considered black and white). Sepia began in earnest in the 1880s, partially to make photographs look better, but also because the chemicals involved in Sepia aided in slowing down the aging of a photograph.

The term Sepia, when used in the context of photography refers to a monochrome image rendered in brown tones rather than the grey-scale tones used in a traditional black and white image. Sepia gets it’s name from the Sepia cuttlefish. Ink from the fish was used to create the brown dye used to alter the tone of Sepia images. In digital photography an image can be transformed into a Sepia image using digital image processing software.
