The Edmonton Elks Signed Defensive Back Darrius Bratton

The Edmonton Elks have signed American defensive back Darrius Bratton (DB), the club announced Wednesday.

The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club competes in the Canadian Football League as a member of the league's West Division and plays their home games at Commonwealth Stadium.

Bratton, a 2016 Fork Union PG graduate, is embarking on his professional career following five seasons of NCAA Division I football at the University of Virginia. The Roanoke, Va., native appeared in 52 games for the Cavaliers, compiling 77 total tackles, one tackle for loss, 0.5 sacks and 14 passes defended.

The six-foot-zero Bratton impressed at Virginia’s pro day in March, when he recorded 38.5″ in the vertical jump, 11’3″ mark in the board jump, and clocked a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash. He was included on the 2023 rookie minicamp roster for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints.

The Green and Gold are currently holding main camp at Commonwealth Stadium in advance of their first pre-season game, on the road against the Calgary Stampeders on May 22.

Fork Union Places Third at VISAA State Championships

Saturday, May 13, 2023

RICHMOND, VA – Junior Harry Momolu and senior Jackson Edwards led the Fork Union Military Academy outdoor track and field program to a third-place finish at the 2023 VISAA State Championship Saturday at SportsBackers Stadium.

"I will always have nothing but gratitude for the 2023 track and field team," said head coach Winston Brown. "We basically started over this year, they bought into what we do. Saturday was a challenging day and our team rose to the challenge. We were so close to second when it appeared we would do no better than fifth or sixth. It was just a great day for our team with a lot to look forward to. Our throwers and jumpers really stepped up as did our seniors. We wish our seniors Jackson Edwards, Charles Campbell, Ahmad Shah, Jackson Pretus and Jacob Seymore all the best at their next stop."

Momolu swept the hurdle events to be a double VISAA State Champion in the 110-meter hurdles (15.53) and 300-meter hurdles (40.52) to be named the Most Valuable Runner. Senior Jackson Edwards won the 800-meter with a time of 1:59.54.

Overall, the Blue Devils recorded 13 top-10 finishes, including five trips to the podium.

In addition to Momolu and Edwards' titles, senior Charles Campbell placed second in the 400-meter (50.40) and the 4x400 relay team of Campbell, Edwards, Emerson Smith and Jacob Seymore put together a time of 3:29.01 for a silver medal.

Junior Jonie Ansah recorded top-10 finishes in the throwing events, placing seventh in the discus (128-10) and sixth in the shot put (44-03.25). Freshman Daveon Rosado placed fifth in the triple jump (40-08) and classmate Bryant Ray followed with a sixth-place finish (40-07). Smith, a junior, placed sixth in the 400-meter (52.08).

Woodberry Forest won the meet with 180.42 points, followed by Collegiate (64.42) and the Blue Devils with 61.

Fork Union Places Fifth at Prep League Championships

Saturday, May 20, 2023

NORFOLK, VA – Junior Harry Momolu and senior Charles Campbell led the Fork Union Military Academy outdoor track and field program to a fifth-place finish at the 2023 Virginia Prep League Championship, hosted by Norfolk Academy Saturday.

"I felt like we showed a great deal of character today with 20 personal bests and three event champions," said head coach Winston Brown. "Harry Momolu was huge for us and what can I really add to the Charles Campbell story? Six months of track & field and now a champion. Wow! One of our toughest competitors today was Jonie Ansah, two personal bests, two finals made. Jackson Edwards joined the sub two-minute club in the 800 and was less than a step from giving us a fourth event champion. Our underclassmen were tough as well as freshman Daveon Rosado was 3rd in the triple jump and classmate Robert Callahan broke the 5-minute barrier in the 1600 for the first time. Our 4x800 team qualified for the state meet thanks to the efforts of seniors Jacob Seymore and Jackson Pretus with strong help from 8th grader David Eaton and freshman Nicholas Coleman. It has been a real privilege to coach this team as they have just continued to improve. With one more to go, the best is yet to come."

Momolu swept the hurdle events to be a double Prep League Champion in the 110-meter hurdles (14.72) and 300-meter hurdles (40.97) and Campbell took home the 400-meter title with a time of 50-flat.

Overall, the Blue Devils recorded 17 top-10 finishes, including seven trips to the podium.

In addition to Momolu and Campbell's titles, senior Jackson Edwards placed second in the 800-meter (1:59.23) and freshman Daveon Rosado placed third in the triple jump (40' 3"), while the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams placed third overall.

Junior Jonie Ansah recorded top-10 finishes in the throwing events, placing seventh in the discus (121'6") and in the shot put (44'8').

Woodberry Forest won the meet with 159 points, followed by Collegiate (77) and St. Christopher's (73). The host placed fourth with 61 points, while the Blue Devils came in fifth with 60 points. Saint Anne's Belfield (33) and Trinity Episcopal (31) rounded out the bottom two.
