If you are a Howard Alum or student from California you’ve probably gotten a question that goes something like this - “What brought you to Howard?” Like over two hundred of Howard applicants for the Class of 2018, The members of the California Student Association we were raised in the beautiful state of California and decided to move to DC for college. Moving so far away from home can be really exciting, but the unknown can also be sort of scary. Not only are you trading weather that fluctuates between sixty and eighty degrees the entire year for seasons that change drastically with a moment’s notice, but you are also jumping into a whole new environment.
Since California is 3,000 miles we know visiting Howard University may not be possible for everyone. Thus, the California Student Association's has created first annual “Howard Take Flight” strives to help give accepted students the knowledge they need to make an educated decision on whether or not attending Howard University is the best fit.
Howard University has admitted 234 students from the State of California to their class of 2021. The California Student Association will sponsor and host 20 of those young men and women (almost ten percent) and give them an opportunity to receive a firsthand experience of “The Mecca.”
Students will have to apply for the program so they become "Passengers" no later than March 10, 2017 by 5:00pm PST. Once admitted the students will then be paired with a current Howard Student who will serve as their "Pilot", mentor and host for the duration of the program. After landing in DC, the passengers with the help of their pilots will have the opportunity to get the "Howard Experience." Passengers will attend all of the Accepted Students Day Activities, attend classes with their pilot as well as see a little bit of what The District has to offer.
