Palm Beach Gardens Tennis & Pickleball Center City of Palm Beach Gardens, FL

Architect : OLC Architecture, Interiors and Aquatics

Total Construction Cost : $4.4 M

Square Feet : 11,000

Project Description:

An original idea to reuse the existing building and add another in the middle of the courts gave way to demolishing the existing structure and constructing a fresh new facility in its place, a move that saved funds allocated to the development of additional parking spaces. The resulting Tennis and Pickleball Center has more offerings and a second floor providing meeting rooms and terraces that open the views to the courts.

Centered around a two-story concourse hosting the lobby, retail spaces and the front desk, the building consists of heavy-timber wood trusses and a roof deck. The high roof with wood decking and heavy-timber wood trusses extends over the entry door and over the 3,000-square-foot elevated viewing balcony. This concourse connects the site — from parking through the building and into the tennis courts — creating a simple and self-evident circulation path with all publicly accessible rooms opening toward the one central spine. It features a pro shop to display merchandise, a café for a quiet cup of coffee or a post-match meetup, and a covered back patio that is ideal for larger outdoor events.

A premier community public tennis facility, the center now features 20 hydro-grid clay tennis courts, four hard courts and six pickleball courts. Its philosophy has been to be inclusive and welcoming, resulting in approximately 250,000 annual players and visitors.
