Headteacher's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I do hope that you and your families are keeping well?

We are now half way through half term 1. I am really impressed with the behaviour we see each day in school and the positivity and enthusiasm towards learning displayed by our pupils. There are some excellent friendships developing in school and it is especially pleasing to see our new pupils so quickly becoming accustomed to their new routines and our expectations.

Today we were really pleased to welcome parents into school to join us for our Coffee Afternoon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. It was lovely to see so many parents join their children in raising funds for such a worthwhile cause. Thank you very much for your support. We are planning on doing a range of Fundraising activities this year in support of our ‘Laudato Si’ activity. Pope Francis in his open letter (‘Laudato Si’) to the world 2015 has tasked us with the responsibility to be better at looking after our common home and caring for others, those less privileged than ourselves, and this will be a key area of action for us to address this year.

On Wednesday next week, 5th October, we have our autumn term ‘Open Afternoon’ for prospective parents looking for a school place for Sept 2023. It will start at 1.30pm. Please do let any other parents you are in contact with of this date, should they wish to attend.

You should have this week received a phone call from the Office team in school reminding you of the importance of attending our Welcome Evening at School on Thursday October 6th. The evening will provide us with an opportunity to welcome you into school to see how the first month has gone. The evening will start promptly at 5pm, with a welcome from the Senior Leadership Team and then Mrs Griffin, our Family Liaison Officer, will provide parents an opportunity to learn about how they can support their children to get the best of their schooling here at SJV. Class Teachers will then welcome you into your child’s classroom to meet the class team and learn about what we have planned for them, in terms of their learning at School for this academic year. From 6pm we will meet informally over refreshments with staff and all parents in the dining room, to answer any other questions you may have. The Office team have informed me that many parents have confirmed their attendance on Thursday and we look forward to meeting with you then.

Finally, please remember to follow us on Twitter, where daily activities and celebrations that happen in school are uploaded to share with you. @StJohnVianneySc

I hope you have a great weekend – stay well.

SJV Class News

Class 7

This week Class 7 took their first trip out as a class. The class planned their own walking route to Chorlton Post Office because we have created postcards to our partner school in Ghana. In these we have introduced ourselves and we hope to hear back from the children at their school soon. It was a lovely day, the class were so mature during the trip.

Class 5

Class 5 enjoyed creating newspaper reports during Topic this week

Class 3

Class 3 enjoyed apple picking at the farm this week.

Class 12

Class 12 worked hard at Nacro’s Greater Manchester Outdoor Learning linked to their BTEC learning. They worked hard as a team which helps improve motivation, self-esteem and behaviour through focused tasks. The main goal this year is making and completing a pond. Maj and Tyler were working on clearing the area around the pond space. Well done Class 12 !

Class 2

Class 2 have really enjoyed looking at primary colours this week and mixing them with their fingers to make different colours. We also did some colour sorting.

Class 4

Class 4 had another brilliant week at Forest School! We were surprised to meet some ferrets this week and learn all about them. We also made some wooden people using tools, and enjoyed a sing-song around the campfire.

Class 13

Class 13 have been working really hard this week at Greater Manchester Outdoor Learning. They have all worked to a very high level and completed lots of independent work.

College Open Morning

Our College open morning was a great success this year. Lots of Further Education settings came in to speak with the students and parents/carers to discuss options open to the students when they are ready to leave SJV.

Our Catholic School

We are more than half way through the first half term? How has that happened? Time really does fly when you are having fun. That’s the joy of SJV, there is always so much happening in our school community and with our engaging curriculum that time literally flies by.

This week we are focusing on the words of St Francis of Assisi's message; ‘for it is giving that we receive and in dying we are born to eternal life’ . We are here to serve and help others and we will have the reward of eternal life with God. Part of our service towards this is events like McMillan Coffee afternoon, to help others in their time of need.

It was wonderful to be able to have a huge event such as McMillan Coffee afternoon. It was so lovely to meet all the parents and carers and enjoy some social time with them. It has been our first McMillan coffee event since 2019! . The chaplaincy team did a wonderful join of supporting this key event

Class 13 went off on retreat to Father Nick's home at the Just Youth Centre to spend some time in prayer and reflection.

Within RE this week we have been looking at out gifts and talents and was makes us special and unique. We have also been looking at some 'Big' questions, such as is there a God? Is their life on other planets?; so lots of interesting debates and discussion this week.
