Baylis Court School Newsletter Friday 1 April 2022

To commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, there is an additional bank holiday on Friday 3 June 2022.

The Government have made the decision to reduce the 2021/22 school year by one day to account for this additional bank holiday. This reduces the number of pupil contact days from 190 to 189.

As 3 June 2022 falls during the half term break, Schools are invited to identify another day of holiday elsewhere in the year.

Baylis Court School has therefore amended the Term dates for the Summer Term of 2022, and we will now finish on Tuesday 19th July 2021.

We thank you for your understanding and hope you enjoy celebrating this momentous occasion.

Artist Of The Week

Well done to Ella Haines in Year 7!

A huge well done to all students and staff involved in this week's Dynamic Showcase. It was a truly excellent performance by all, and just wonderful to have an audience again to perform for.

Look out for more information in next week's newsletter!

Book Review

Book: League of Sharks

Author: David Logan

Plot summary: The League of sharks tells the tale of Junk; a young Irish boy who bears witness to his sister's abduction by a huge, an otherworldly creature who runs away with her and jumps into the sea, killing her immediately. There starts junk's adventure to find who abducted his sister .....he suffers through pain, loss, betrayal can he find who it was?

Recommendations: I recommend this book to anyone who likes adventures.

This book has three parts to it (the league of sharks, the nine emperors, the nightmare clock). This book is eye-catching, breathtaking, and attention-drawing.

On Friday 25th March, eight Year 10 students were chosen to represent Baylis in the AMSP’s Maths Feast Competition that took place at Langley Grammar School. There were four competitive rounds which stretched the teams’ mathematical knowledge, teamwork and problem solving skills. Students had a thoroughly enjoyable experience representing our school during this event, even coming 3rd in one of the rounds, ahead of seven other teams.

"I think the Maths Feast was a unique experience for me and I really enjoyed how different it was to the normal GCSE maths we do every day. I also felt like it challenged our maths skills and ability to work as a team under pressure. Overall, it was an enjoyable opportunity to experience." – Alina Ahmad

Although our school didn't win, I still thought taking part in the ASMP Maths Feast was great experience - and overall, I had an amazing time as it was a great thing to be part of.” – Suha Amir
“I had a really enjoyable, knowledgeable and skilful experience at the maths feast where I thoroughly loved the competitiveness displayed within all the schools and overall had a fantastic time, would definitely recommend this to other students!” – Muminah Hussain
