SEASON OPENER

The Oakland women's basketball team kicked off the 2018-19 season with a convincing 94-48 win over Grace Christian in the home opener (Nov. 6)

Taylor Jones scored a game-high 26 points while dishing nine assists with six rebounds and four steals

Chloe Guingrich posted 16 points with seven boards

Myka Cromwell chipped in with 10 points

LaKyesha Stennis also added 10 points in her Oakland debut after sitting out last season.

Autumn Kissman hauled in a career-best nine rebounds

LOADED BIG 10 TRIO SCHEDULE

The 2018-19 campaign marked the third consecutive season Oakland played three opponents from the Big Ten Conference with all three games at home against Indiana (Nov. 11), Michigan State (Dec. 4) and Michigan (Dec. 9).

Despite the setback against Michigan (Dec. 9), Oakland set the eighth highest attendance mark in program history at 1594 in the "Overflow the "O" Game"

SOLID DEFENSE PROPELS OAKLAND OVER ROCHESTER COLLEGE

Oakland turned in a solid defensive effort with 18 steals en route to a 64-46 win over Rochester College for their third win of the season (Dec. 17). The Golden Grizzlies utilized their forward's height and size advantage down low to score 38 points in the paint while grabbing a season second-best 50 rebounds leading to a 20-8 second chance points advantage.

METRO SERIES SHOWDOWN - GAME 1

Oakland delivered a 74-67 win over arch-rival Detroit Mercy at the O'rena in the first of two Metro Series matchups. The Golden Grizzlies matched a season-best 24 assists on 30 made baskets earning the third straight over the Titans (Jan. 4).

Taylor Jones dished out a career-high 16 assists just missing the game school record by one and almost added a triple double with 11 points and nine rebounds

Chloe Guingrich recorded career-highs in points (21) and rebounds (16)

Autumn Kissman posted a career-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field

Kayla Luchenbach added a career-best 13 points going 6-for-7 from the field with two blocks

JONES MESSED AROUND AND GOT A TRIPLE DOUBLE

Taylor Jones scored 18 points, dished 10 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds to record the program's first triple double since the 2008-09 season when Brittany Carnago posted a 14 point, 10 rebound, 11 block performance at Centenary on Jan. 12, 2009 as Oakland fell short in a shootout at Cleveland State, 98-90 (Feb. 2).

DEAN NAMED HORIZON LEAGUE NIKE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

For the first time in her career, Kahlaijah Dean was named Horizon League Nike® Freshman of the Week (Feb. 4). The Bakersfield, Calif. native averaged 26.0 points shooting 20-for-31 (64.5%) from the field and 9-for-17 from 3-point range (52.9%) at Youngstown State and Cleveland State. Against YSU, Dean poured in a career-high 29 points with career marks in field goals shooting a blistering 12-for-18 from the field and 3-pointers hitting 5-for-9 with six rebounds. She followed that performance with a team-high 23 points going 8-for-13 from the field, 4-for-8 from behind the arc and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe with a game-high five steals at CSU.

METRO SERIES SHOWDOWN - GAME 2

Kahlaijah Dean scored a career-high 30 points hitting a blistering 9-of-12 from 3-point range just missing the school game record of 10 to lead Oakland to a 76-65 Metro Series win at arch-rival Detroit Mercy (Feb. 9). Dean's 30 point effort is the highest since Bethany Watterworth scored 32 at American on Nov. 15, 2011. With the win, the Golden Grizzlies swept the season series over the Titans and have won the last four meetings.

Detroit native Taylor Jones added 21 points with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in her final game at Calihan Hall.

Teneea Heston dished out a career-high six assists with five points and six rebounds.

After her career-high 30 point performance on 10-of-15 shooting with a career-best 9-of-12 from 3-point range just missing the school game record of 10, Dean was named Horizon League Nike® Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week after leading Oakland to a 76-65 win at Detroit Mercy.

NEAR TRIPLE-DOUBLE FROM JONES LEADS OAKLAND TO WIN OVER UIC

Oakland used a strong third quarter to defeat UIC, 74-57, on Breast Cancer Awareness Day and Women in Sports Day at the O'rena (Feb. 16)

Taylor Jones scored a game-high 23 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out nine assists to just miss recording her second triple-double of the season

Mercy Agwaniru posted four blocks for the third time this season along with eight rebounds

Taylor Jones was named Horizon League Nike® Player of the Week averaging 25.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists shooting 20-for-36 (55.6%) from the field and 3-for-7 from 3-point range (42.9%) with two double-doubles against IUPUI and UIC. Jones posted her sixth double-double of the season with a career-high 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds with three assists and two steals as Oakland came up short in the upset bid against IUPUI. She followed that performance with her seventh double-double scoring a game-high 23 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out nine assists to just miss recording her second triple-double of the season while leading Oakland to a win over UIC.

SENIOR DAY SALUTE

Oakland honored seniors (L to R) Taylor Jones, Nikita Telesford, Mercy Agwaniru, Sidney Santos and LaKyesha Stennis for their hard work and dedication to the program on Senior Day (Feb. 28). Despite the hard fought 73-64 setback, the Golden Grizzlies qualified for the 2019 Horizon League Tournament as the No. 8 seed.

HORIZON LEAGUE HONORS

Taylor Jones was an All-Horizon League Second Team selection earning league honors in each of her four years at Oakland being named to the All-Freshman Team in 2015-16 and earning consecutive Sixth Man of the Year honors as a sophomore and junior.
Kahlaijah Dean was named to the All-Freshman Team ranking second on the team and 10th in the league in scoring (11.7 ppg), second in 3-point field goals made (60 - 2.1) and seventh in 3-point field goal percentage (35.8). She scored 20 points or more four times and reached double figures 16 times. Over a three-game span against YSU, CSU and UDM (1/31-2/9), Dean averaged 27.3 ppg shooting a staggering 30-for-46 (65.2%) from the field and 18-of-29 (62.1%) from 3-point range

JONES CLOSES OUT STELLAR CAREER IN HORIZON LEAGUE TOURNAMENT AT WRIGHT STATE

The 2018-19 season came to an end as No. 1 Wright State used a late third quarter run to down No. 8 Oakland, 83-60, in quarterfinal action of the 2019 Little Caesars Motor City Madness Horizon League Championships (Mar. 5)

Taylor Jones closed out stellar career scoring a team and game-high 22 points with five assists and four rebounds to finish eighth on the program's all-time scoring list with 1615 points and sixth all-time in free throws made with 349

• For her career, Jones scored 20 or more points 25 times and reached double figures 83 times

• Jones led the team in scoring (15.0 – 3rd HL), assists (4.2 – 2nd HL), free throw percentage (71.7 – T-8th HL), ranked second in rebounds (6.8 – T-10th HL), steals (1.5 – 8th HL) and ranked 48th nationally in field goal attempts (464 total - 16.0 per/game)

• She scored 18 points, dished 10 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds at Cleveland State (2/2) to record the program's first triple double since the 2008-09 season . In addition to her lone triple double, she missed two more with 11 points, 16 assists and nine rebounds against UDM (1/4) and had 23 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists against UIC (2/16)

Chloe Guingrich grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds just missing her career-high of 16
