Dear Schroeder Parents,

The Schroeder staff will spend a large amount of time preparing class lists for the following school year. Our placement teams and teachers will have numerous meetings and carefully place each individual student. We consider this an important task and put forth the effort in making sure that all students are placed appropriately. We consider each child’s strengths, needs and friendships very carefully.

The class lists are constructed to create a relatively equal balance in numerous class components. This helps teachers serve and educate all students appropriately. Like other elementary schools in Troy, Schroeder does not accept specific teacher requests. You may, however, write a letter if you would like to share unique information regarding your child’s needs for academic success. Please understand that you do not need to submit a letter. Our placement teams will still strategically place your child with care. We ask that you follow the items listed below.

  • Please do not request specific teachers.
  • The letter must be a paper copy. We ask that you do not send emails. Drop the letter in the office vestibule or send via U.S. mail.
  • Address the letter to me, Mr. Canfield.
  • At the top list your child’s name and grade for NEXT YEAR.
  • The letter should be signed and dated.
  • The letter should include a brief description of the learning environment that best matches your child’s unique learning needs.
  • Letters must be submitted by April 14th.

Please remember that writing a letter is not required. Some parents may feel the need to share unique information. Please keep in mind that this letter is only a request. We cannot always accommodate everyone’s preference. Our staff will work hard to place students to experience success. If you feel the need to write a placement letter, it must be turned into the office by Thursday, April 14th. Letters turned in after this deadline will not be considered.

Thank you, Mr. Brian Canfield

Students and staff are invited to wear colorful fun socks for World Down Syndrome Day!

Important Health Reminder - It is important for all families to continue following the Troy School District protocol for keeping sick students at home. The District policy is that students with any symptoms of illness should stay home. If a student has one symptom, they can return to school when that has been resolved. If they have a fever, they must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication before returning. If they vomited, they can return when it has been 24 hours since their last episode of vomiting. Students who have more than one symptom have three options:

  1. Stay home from school for five days and return on the sixth day as long as their symptoms are improved and they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
  2. Obtain a negative Covid test. Home tests are not permitted. PCR or rapid tests from a pharmacy, urgent care, doctor's office etc. are accepted.
  3. Provide a doctor's note with an alternate diagnosis that explains their symptoms. If a child is sick and awaiting test results, that student and all unvaccinated siblings must stay home until the results are known.

We appreciate your help keeping our Schroeder community healthy!

Students in Miss Pertler's class exercised their engineering minds and put their building skills to the test! The students worked in teams to create Leprechaun traps to try to catch one on St. Patrick's Day!

Schroeder 5th graders participated in fantasy book clubs!

5th graders share their fantasy books.

Second grade Media students did a "look closely" routine where they examined the parts and purposes of the Ozobots! Then, they used pre-made mazes to see how the Ozobots “read” code! Next week, they get to code their own mazes!

M.I.R.M. Family Read-In Night!

Lastly, a dragon-sized thank you to the Schroeder parents and families for attending this fun event and for the positive reinforcement of reading for their children.
