Red Clay Visiting Teachers Help Students Stay Connected During Pandemic

School truancy rates have been going up throughout our region as a result of virtual learning. See what Red Clay visiting teachers are doing to keep students engaged in this special report from NBC10.

Hundreds of Educators in Delaware Now Fully Vaccinated

Delaware has taken one giant step towards its goal of getting all its students back into the classroom as hundreds of educators across the state are being vaccinated. Watch the story from a recent vaccine clinic at The John Dickinson School, via WITN22.

Last Chance to Apply for New Castle County Summer Youth Employment Program

One summer can change your future. Students from 14 to 20 years old are encouraged to apply for the New Castle County Summer Youth Employment Program, which offers hundreds of job opportunities including coding positions in collaboration with Code Differently. The application deadline is March 5.

Good luck to Red Clay's student athletes as they continue their playoff push! The John Dickinson School varsity boys basketball team will compete against Sallies on March 6, and the Thomas McKean High School unified basketball team will take on Indian River in the first round of the unified basketball playoffs on March 8.

Red Clay High School Students Meet Award-Winning Author Cristina Henríquez

Delaware's 2021 Teacher of the Year Kim Stock took her English class on a virtual field trip to meet award-winning author Cristina Henríquez. Henríquez is the author of The Book of Unknown Americans, which was a New York Times Notable Book of 2014 and one of Amazon’s 10 Best Books of the Year. It was the Daily Beast Novel of the Year, a Washington Post Notable Book, an NPR Great Read, a Target Book of the Month selection, and was chosen one of the best books of the year by BookPage, Oprah.com, and School Library Journal. It was also longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and was a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

2021 Hispanic Student Recognition Program Nominations Are Now Being Accepted

The Latin American Community Center’s Hispanic Student Recognition Program (HSRP) recognizes exceptional high school Hispanic students in the State of Delaware. The program has been a signature event since 1979 and maintains strong school, community, and private sector support. The goal of the program is to open doors for Hispanic students to pursue greater opportunities, inspire pride in our people and heritage, motivate students to work hard, and encourage families to support them.

School Social Work Week Begins March 7

Please join us in celebrating Red Clay school social workers during National School Social Work Week from March 7-13.

In their role, school social workers are able to light the way, emphasizing the whole child, collaborating with other professionals, linking students and families with needed services, and advocating for the profession.
