Cucumber Bagel Bites support healthier eating A quick and simple afternoon snack

Georgia based frozen snack manufacturer Farm Rich conducted a study that showed 90% of American teenagers, upon returning home from school, eat a snack prior to other activities. The study also showed that half of those kids did not have parental supervision from school to dinner - resulting in a large consumption of chips and sweets. This can subsequently contribute to poor eating choices and health issues later on.

So why not turn to nutritious options? Well, there tends to be a few common issues when looking for healthy alternatives. Teenagers may lack the ingredients, skills or motivation that will push them to healthier choices. Despite this, a rapid and quite delicious recipe has surfaced on instagram - cucumber bagel bites. The snack is convenient, filling, healthy and takes less than five minutes to prep.

The great thing about this recipe is that the majority of the ingredients are things that can be found at home, and you can make however many you desire. The things you will need are: cream cheese, cucumber, sea salt and everything bagel seasoning, which can be found at most grocery stores. Type of cream cheese can vary based on taste - scallion and normal are used here.

Begin by washing and cutting however many slices you are hungry for. You can cut the cucumber to any width depending on what the ratio of cucumber to cream cheese you would like.
Spread the cream cheese to your desired thickness - this can and will vary depending on type of cream cheese and preference. Spreading the cream cheese might initially be hard to spread if the cucumber is still wet, so allow it to dry for a few minutes.
Use the Everything but the bagel seasoning to add flavor; this one is from Balducci's but it can be found anywhere.
Sprinkle desired amount onto each cucumber slice.
Sprinkle a teaspoon of sea salt onto each slice, finishing off the snack.

Enjoy your healthy, but still delicious cucumber bites. It could definitely be used as a "transition stage" and perfect for someone who is beginning a journey of more nutritious eating. Share the finished product with friends or family.
