Career Information

I selected Video Game Design/Development as my career. As a designer, you are expected to come up with unique designs and ideas that fit in with the video game you are trying to make. As a developer, you are apart of the team that creates assets for said video game (i.e 3D Models, props, scenery, etc).

SOFTWARE USED

The software used on the job varies. Most game development companies use Unity or Unreal Engine as a base to create the game from. They also use other software like Blender to create 3D models and animations, which can be ported over to the actual game engine.

I selected Unreal Engine 5 for my software. It's the latest release in the Unreal Engine series and it's completely free! The best part is, you don't even know how to professionally code to develop a game. Unreal Engine 5 let's you use nodes and connect them with other nodes to create your game. It's very beginner friendly.

HARDWARE USED

Hardware Cost Overall: $977.60

Total Cost: $1370.78

I chose these specific specs because they can handle the requirements of Unreal Engine 5 without having to spend too much. It's just between the minimum and recommended requirements. Unreal Engine 5 can use a decent amount of RAM, but it mainly puts a lot of stress on your GPU.

I would have personally picked a bit of a higher end GPU, but it would have exceeded the base cost of $1000 for hardware.

Mouse, keyboard, monitor, are all output devices. Storage is storage. Memory and CPU are processing. The rest of them are input.
