Principal's Newsletter Patton Middle School - April 4, 2022

Dear Patton Families,

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing students with the opportunity to meet with and learn from published authors, I am excited to announce that today, Linda Sue Park will be visiting with our Patton Middle School students in a virtual format. In conjunction with Linda Sue Park’s visit, our students are reading one of her most notable books, A Long Walk to Water (based on the true story of one of the “Lost Boys” of Sudan). Over the last several weeks, our school has been reading this book during our Advisory time.

Some of our Patton families and students are observing Ramadan, a Muslim season of fasting and prayer. Fasting during Ramadan requires no food or water from dawn to dusk. For this reason, the Patton library will be a food and drink free zone from April 2nd through May 2nd. Any student fasting during Ramadan is welcome to come to the library during their lunch period. To our Patton families observing Ramadan, we wish you a Ramadan Kareem.

Also, I wanted to make everyone aware that the district now has a Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity website, which has resources related to various celebrations observed by members of our community.

Finally, on behalf of the entire Patton Middle School staff, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Patton Families a restful, safe, and enjoyable spring break. Happy Easter to those celebrating the season of Good Friday and Easter at the end of this month.

Have a great week! GO HAWKS!

Steve Dissinger, CFPMS Principal

Reflections on Resilience

In preparation for our author visit, our Monday SEL lessons during the month of March have focused on the book, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park. Thank you to Mrs. Kropp for providing very engaging and thoughtful lessons around the main themes of the book which include: adversity, resilience, and environmental issues. Today our students will wrap up this month-long lesson by learning more about resilience and reflecting on resilience in their own lives. We found this resource for parents if you’d like to continue this conversation at home with your children.
