Oct 10, 2016. I observed the Coast Guard's USCGC VISE pushing the CGC Vise Barge (CGB 68012) in Boca Ciego Bay from St. Pete Beach. When the Vise approached the channel markers, the drawbridge sounded to alert cars that it was opening. I watched the tender push the barge under the open Corey Causeway Drawbridge.
The Vise is an inland construction tender used to build and service shore structures, for example, piers and buoy trestles. The tenders are also used to maintain buoys and aids to navigation.
USCGC VISE (WLIC 75305) is the fifth member of the Anvil Class of Inland Construction Tenders. The USCGC Vise was delivered March 14 1963 and is stationed at Sector St. Petersburg, Florida.
