Intake Information

Jurassik Bark is committed to ensuring each animal we take into our programs is done so responsibly. Part of how we do this is by maintaining a limited intake. This allows us to ensure that we have the resources available to properly care for each animals individual needs. Our intake rates may fluctuate dependent on available funding, coordinators, medical severity of cases within the program, etc.

Intake Criteria

As much as we wish we could intake each and every case that was presented to us we realize this is not realistic, nor would it be responsible. Jurassik Bark Rescue was created to provide a safe haven for displaced Senior and Special Needs Dogs, as such, these cases will be given priority for intake. In certain situations Jurassik Bark may be able to assist with animals outside of these demographics.

Jurassik Bark is a foster based organization. We do not have a facility for housing animals. Therefor, our ability to intake will also be dependent on the availability of a suitable foster home. We may not able to intake dogs immediately.

Special Needs

Jurassik Bark Rescue uses the term "Special Needs" broadly and without a universal meaning. These are dogs that require more in terms of care than the average dog. This can range from limited ability's due to paralysis, amputation, birth defects, injuries, to dogs with chronic medical conditions or dogs that are considered palliative.

Seniors

Jurassik Bark considers dogs over the age of 8 for our senior intake.

Behavioral Cases

Aggression: Jurassik Bark does not have the resources available to responsibly house, manage or rehabilitate animals who are or have a history of being human aggressive or animals who show extreme aggression towards other animals. Therefor, under no circumstances are we able to intake such cases.

Other: In many cases we are not able to intake dogs being surrendered solely for behavioral concerns. The reasoning behind this is once again, limited resources. In order for Jurassik Bark to intake dogs we must have a suitable foster home available. A majority of our foster homes are not able to take in cases with major behavioral concerns. We will assess each behavioral intake request on a case by case basis.

  • Owner Surrender Intake Request Form

We know the decision to surrender your pet can be a heartbreaking and extremely difficult one to make. While we understand in some circumstances it may be in the animals best interest or the only option, we encourage you to check out our resources page or reach out to our team to discuss if there may be any other options available to help keep your beloved pet in your care.

Important Information: Jurassik Bark Rescue is a foster based and donor funded organization. In order for us to intake new animals we must have a suitable foster home available for them to move too along with the resources to responsibly care for them. Therefor, we cannot always accommodate emergency or urgent intakes. Intake times can vary depending on the needs of the individual dogs. Quite often homes can be secured within a matter of days however for dogs requiring a more specific placement this can take weeks.

If you require urgent placement please reach out to our team, we may be able to refer to another organization who has the ability to intake more urgent cases.

OWNER SURRENDER PROCESS

Before submitting your intake request form please review our Intake Criteria to ensure your dog would be compatible for our program. Dogs who do not meet this criteria will not be accepted into Jurassik Bark's programs at this time.

Step 1 - Intake Request

All owner surrender requests must complete our New Intake Request Form.

Once you have submitted your intake request form our Intake coordination team will review your application. Our team will be in contact via email as quickly as possible. Please note we are run by volunteers so response times may take up to 72 hours. If your request meets our intake criteria your email will include details to schedule a call to discuss your case further. If it does not meet our criteria we will do our best to refer elsewhere.

Once you have completed your intake request and interview the board will review and make a decision on whether we can responsibly intake your animal. In most cases you will be notified of the decision within 24 hours of your interview.

Step 2 - Intake and Owner Release

Once your animal is accepted into our program we will arrange to have them assessed by our team. Please note that until the animal has been assessed and a suitable foster placement is secured Jurassik Bark does not guarantee intake.

Once assessed your dogs profile we will released to our foster community to line up placement.

Once foster placement is arranged Jurassik Bark will coordinate intake

At the time of intake the surrendering Owner(s) will transfer ownership of the dog to Jurassik Bark and relinquish all rights to the animal.

SURRENDER FEE'S

Jurassik Bark does not charge a surrender fee. However should the surrendering owner be in a position to make a donation towards the cost of the animals care it is greatly appreciated.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOUR DOG ?

You are welcome to bring along any or all of your dogs belongings. If they have a favorite bed, blanket, toy etc. we encourage you to bring these as they can provide a sense of familiarity for your pup while they make this transition. We also ask that you bring along some of your pets current food so that we can slowly transition them to a new food if needed.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH MY PET AFTER THEY ARE SURRENDERED ?

At the time of intake your beloved dog will be placed into the care of one of our approved foster homes for their intake period. This intake period is designed to allow the dog to decompress and for us to get them vetted and to allow us to get to know them a bit better so we can better determine what sort of home environment would be best for them long term. Once they complete their intake period we will start accepting applications for their new forever family.

Quite often our foster homes will adopt their foster dogs so there is a good chance your dog may not need to transition to a new home again.

OWNER SURRENDER POLICY'S

Jurassik Bark is not able to facilitate transport for owner surrenders, Owners will assume the responsibility of transporting the dog to Jurassik Bark.

Dogs surrendered to Jurassik Bark will not be eligible for re-adoption by the surrendering family.

Jurassik Bark is not able to provide details of foster or adoptive placement to surrendering families. Our team will be more than happy to provide updates to surrendering families should they request them.

Animals who display or have a history of displaying aggression towards humans will not be accepted into Jurassik Bark. Animals who display extreme aggression towards other animals that cannot be easily managed are also not to be accepted into Jurassik Bark. Should an animal display these behaviors the surrendering owner will be contacted and given 48 hours to arrange for the animal to be retuned to their care, IF, Jurassik Bark can safely house the animal for that time. If we cannot safely house the animal or if the surrendering owner is not willing to resume ownership we may opt to transfer ownership to a more suitable organization or in cases of extreme aggression, humane euthanasia may be considered. Review our Euthanasia policy here.
