Encourage each other and build each other up

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Nurturing the infinite worth of every person through love, respect, perseverance, honesty and forgiveness

Message from the Head...

It's been a great start to the new term and having the opportunity in Parents Evening to share your child's work. The children have settled in well and it's been lovely having them all back. The highlight of the week has to be Tuesday where the children participated in pancake races in their values family. A special thank you goes to the staff who were busy making pancakes all morning so the children could enjoy a pancake to eat too!

Encourage each other and build each other up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Contacting the office to report an absence...

Reporting your child's absence

Please do not email your child's teacher to report an absence. All absences need to be phoned to the school office which is open from 8.30am. We are looking into updating our system with a voicemail system if you ring in earlier! We'll keep you posted when we get this system in place.

Doctor's/Dentist Appointments - We are now required to see evidence of all medical appointments, this can be a text message, email or letter.

Lateness - If you are late dropping your child off to school, please make sure they are safely handed over onto the school premises - please do not leave them to walk down the road and through the gate unattended.

Attendance

Poor punctuality can lead to your child…

  • Feeling embarrassed in front of their friends
  • Missing the beginning of vital lessons making them fall behind
  • Missing important instructions for the rest of the school day
  • Learning bad habits which could affect their employability in the future.

Please work with us to provide your child with the best chances of learning by ensuring that they are in school every day and on

Attendance at Isham CE Primary School - 20th - 24th February 2023

Parents/Carers with any Concerns - Please phone to make an appointment

We urge parents/carers with any concerns regarding the provision made for their child to speak to the school as soon as possible and, in the first instance, to the class teacher by making an appointment through the school office, (parents cannot 'drop in' to speak to a teacher or Headteacher). If parents / carers feel their child's needs are still not being met they should make an appointment to see the Headteacher. If concerns are still unresolved parents / carers may wish to engage with PDET’s Complaints policy procedures.

Safeguarding

Our Safeguarding Vision

Isham CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. Our school has a child centred and co-ordinated approach to safeguarding. Consequently, safeguarding and child protection is at the forefront of everything we do. We ensure systems are in place that are well promoted, easily understood and easily accessible for children to confidently report any form of abuse or neglect, knowing their concerns will be treated seriously, and knowing they can safely express their views and give feedback.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads

If you believe that a child in our school may be at risk, please talk to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or one of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. These are:

Miss Alexandra Price (Headteacher and Lead DSL) - a.price@isham.pdet.org.uk

Mrs Helen Hughes (Deputy Safeguarding Lead) - h.hughes@isham.pdet.org.uk

If you are worried about a child outside of school time, you can call the local Multi Agency Support Hub (MASH) for advice (anonymously if needs be) on 0300 126 7000 (option 1).

Mental Wellbeing

Wellbeing

Wellbeing Activities and Ideas for Parents

  • Mindful breathing can be a good place to start regulating and recognising breathing patterns. Mindful breathing and colour activities can help slow down the pace of the day and enjoy some reflection time.
  • Going out for a walk is a great way to reset and enjoy nature. Why not try a sound walk together and let the sounds of nature give your walk a purpose?
  • Use Daily Reflection Journal Pages to help learn how to reflect on a days activities.
  • Interaction: Children need to connect, so build connections with people around you. Stay in touch with family and friends in person or via video chat.
  • Energy: Children need to be active, so help boost your energy and mood by doing something active.
  • Mindfulness: Children need to take notice so encourage curiosity about the world and savour the moment.
  • Discovery: It's important to keep learning, so learn something new to boost confidence. Consider taking virtual tours - for example, check out the animal cameras at places like the Edinburgh Zoo. Kids can use this to then create their own animal portraits.
  • Be Creative: Find time to paint, make, sing or dance on your own or with another person.

Time to get creative!

WORLD BOOK DAY - THURSDAY 2ND MARCH

World Book Day - Thursday 2nd March

World Book Day Mission: In the UK, nearly 400,000 children don’t have a book of their own. Having access to books and developing a love of reading for pleasure is vital for a child’s future. Our vision is to see more children, from all backgrounds, developing a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and benefitting from the improved life chances this brings them. By making a donation or raising funds for World Book Day, you can help us change lives through a love of books and shared reading.

On World Book Day, Thursday 2nd March, we are inviting children to come to school as their favourite book character. We kindly ask for £1 donations so we can purchase some new books for the children.

Book in a Box Competition is back!

To celebrate our love of books, we are asking children to create their own 'book in a box' based on their favourite book. Please could entries be handed in by Friday 3rd March and the winners will be announced on Monday 6th March. We look forward to your creations!

Music Assembly - 23rd March

Music Assembly - Thursday 23rd March at 9am

Due to the success of the last music assemblies, I will be hosting another music assembly to celebrate the talented musicians we have at Isham!

As with the previous one's held, if your child is learning to play a musical instrument through regular lessons either in or out of school (this includes children who receive singing lessons) and has a prepared piece (maybe two!) that they would like to perform on Thursday 23rd March, please email the school office: office@isham.pdet.org.uk with the name of your child and the instrument by 10th March. This will then allow me to compile a running order for this assembly.

Parents of those children who are performing are also invited to attend, please confirm in an email to the school office if you would like to attend.

Thanks as always for your support with your children’s musical endeavors,

Mr Hole

School Value: Perseverance

Reflection Time...

This term, we have linked collective worship to our school value of Honesty. In turn, this links to the British Value of the RULE OF LAW: for rules to work, we must be honest with others and, perhaps, most importantly ourselves. Just how honest are we? Do we do the right thing? Do we acknowledge our mistakes and work to be better in future? The Ten Commandments give us the basis of the rules in British society - how many can you remember? Honesty matters, and being truthful means that we can grow and mature, learning from our mistakes. For society, truthfulness makes special bonds, and lying breaks them. Truthfulness is important because God is the God of truth. This week, we reflected on what honesty means to us and how we can be honest in our school community. The children learning about when Jesus forgave Peter (John 21 1-19); the key message from this story is that we are ordinary people like Peter who will mess up from time to time. The good news is that even when we have messed up, Christians believe Jesus still loves us and wants us to be his followers.

Dear God, Help us to be honest when we do something wrong. Help us not to blame other people, but acknowledge our mistakes, and apologise and so learn and move on. Amen

Collective Worship Songs

During collective worship, the children have been singing 'My Lighthouse'; 'This little Light of Mine', 'Power in Me' and 'Rise up and Shine."
