Making Marks

After looking at the artist Bridget Riley we wanted to create our own patterns in art. The children explored pattern by making zig zag movements, circles, squiggles and much more. They then went on to make their own pictures and some children even tried to create an optical illusion in their work.

In geography we have been looking at the map of the UK. The children found out about the four countries that make up the UK and they have been working really hard to remember their capital cities. The children also had the opportunity to look through an atlas to find the UK. We explored what the map showed, the country that we live in, as well as the name.

The children had fun this week thinking about germs and how we are unable to see them. To make this easier for the children to understand they popped a little amount of glitter onto their finger. This was to represent the germs. We asked the children to rub their hands together and they were fascinated how the glitter spread. We then talked about the importance of washing our hands correctly and the children enjoyed carrying out this task.
