Senior Liam Braun said, "I'm the secretary of NHS, which means I take attendance, record meeting notes, and have a general leadership position."
"It felt great to finally have a ceremony. We've waited over a year to have it, so it was amazing to see that patience and hard work pay off," said Braun.
Braun lights the Candle of Integrity symbolizing one of the values of the National Honor Society.
"In NHS, my position is the vice president which is essentially overseeing everything that goes on and running recycling," said senior Annika Schnell. "I gave a speech about character and how good character is developed through every small decision you make."
"I was lighting the Candle of Service. I'm treasurer so I collect everyone's dues, and I tally up all the volunteer hours at the end of the trimester," said senior Emma Borden.
NHS advisor Matthew Porco watching as the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 inductees walk into the auditorium.
"It was exciting to finally be able to have a ceremony after having to wait for so long," said senior and NHS member Ella Boyea. "Being able to walk across the stage in front of our family and friends and get our certificate made me feel very accomplished."
Due to COVID-19 the Nation Honor Society 2020-2021 inductees could not have an in-person ceremony. They did have a virtual ceremony/ but nothing beats walking across the actual stage and being handed your certificate by principal Christopher Aguinaga.
"It felt wonderful to induct new members into our National Honor Society," said NHS advisor Ryan Allen. "We are excited to see their community services efforts in the local community and here at school. It was great for our old members as well so that they could have their time in the spotlight and remind them that they were not forgotten. This was a huge win for everyone in showing that safety and normalcy can go hand-in-hand."
"I am president of NHS and my duties include running meetings, working with the advisors, Mr. Porco and Mr. Allen, concerning volunteer opportunities and being a bridge between the members and the advisors," said senior Hollis Masterson. "I believe that the NHS is the best modern example of teaching teens how to do good with what they have learned in school and apply them to the outside world in ways that will help them in their future careers, be it development of soft skills like self-confidence and leadership to hard skills like service and community."
"I believe the NHS caters to individuals who want to have the most tools possible to succeed while uplifting others around them." Masterson continued, "Frankly what the NHS means to me is teaching soft and hard skills to the future leaders and bright minds of the world."
