Mesa, Ariz. - Texas Wesleyan University used 1-under par efforts from Victor Miron and Tyron Davidowitz Wednesday to expand its first-round lead to 14 shots through two rounds, and Miron sits two shots back of the individual lead in the event, held by Kansas Wesleyan University’s Ben Hadden at 4-under par.
Hadden overcame a rocky start Wednesday, bogeying his first three holes before bouncing back with a 4-under second nine to shoot 70 (-1) for a two-day total of 138 (-4). A group of 17 teams advance to Thursday’s third round, along with individuals in the top 40.
News and Notes
- Seventeen teams made the cut and will remain in Mesa for Thursday’s third round, ending the season for 13 teams.
- Multiple players from the 13 cut teams will remain in the 40 individuals that will also play on, Thursday morning and afternoon.
- Ben Hadden’s three-straight bogeys could have derailed the Kansas Wesleyan senior, but a field-best 32 on the front nine (-4) propelled the Shawnee, Kansas native back in to first place.
News and Notes
- Hadden’s round also helped Kansas Wesleyan survive the cut in its first-ever appearance in the national championship.
- Hadden’s front-nine 32 wasn’t the best nine-hole score of the day, but it did come from his school’s pairing, as Missouri Valley’s Jan Jedlicka, who shot 31 on the back nine, his opening nine holes of the day.
- Jedlicka’s 31 helped Missouri Valley make the cut, as well, in its first-ever national championship appearance.
