Falconer's Hill Academy Our children, their future, our responsibility

Principal's Message

This has has been another busy week at Falconer's. Y5 have enjoyed the Magic Flute at the Royal Opera House; despite the delayed traffic on the way back. the children found it enjoyable and interesting. Thank you to the parents who were able to step in to support at the last minute. Miss Randall has taken 18 of our pupils to a Sport's Hall Athletics and the children have further developed their sporting skills. We hosted our first Well being and SEND cafe this week. We look forwards to seeing more parents next month. The pastoral team would like to thank everyone who attend, Don't forget the team is here if your need them for help an advice.

Learning Round-up

In Silver Birch we have had another amazing week. We’ve loved learning about our healthy plate and digestion in science. We have started learning about fractions and have been taking part in our ‘time challenge’. In Silver Birch we love identifying the time of the day (hour) where we point out when it’s quarter past / quarter to or half past an hour. A great way for children to remember what the time is! I am so impressed with the attitude children have had towards this challenge and learning time! Well done to all!

We've had another busy week in Maple class. In science we looked at the different food categories and made healthy plates. In Talk for Writing we have been planning and writing our amber write, implementing all the new skills we have learnt. In geography this week we have started learning about The Great Wall of China. In Maths we have started learning fractions. Everyone has worked very hard this week, well done all!

This week Pine class have done some wonderful writing, firstly looking at writing a website article about whether it would be a good idea to ban mobile phones for under 13’s, and then in our Amber write for an instruction text. We have been really impressive with our imagination! In Science, we enjoyed conducting a fair test into how much carbon dioxide is in some popular fizzy drinks. We have also started our new unit in maths and so far have worked really hard at grasping decimal fractions, well done!

This week Elder have been working very hard. We conducted a fair test to see which popular fizzy drink contained the most carbon dioxide and wrote confession notes in the role of Macavity in Talk for Reading, which were very imaginative! We also have been planning our final pieces in art, working with textiles and practicing our newly learnt stitches. Elder have also been enjoying learning ‘Do, Re, Mi’ from The Sound Of Music, along with the musical hand signs; some children have even gone home to watch the film!

Sequoia have had a fantastic week with an exciting trip! We were able to travel to London and visit the Royal Opera House to watch the opera The Magic Flute. It was a really memorable experience and was especially fascinating to hear the opera sung in German as it was originally written! Even in a different language we managed to recognise the melodies of some of the songs that we have been learning in our music lessons.

This week, Oak class have been learning about the cycle of an insect. The children used plasticine to represent the four stages which are: egg, larvae, pupa and adult. The children enjoyed comparing the life cycle of a insect to other life cycles they have learnt about such as mammals and amphibians. In addition to this, children have been learning about how WW2 began and how it was announced to the people of Great Britain. The children enjoyed listening to Neville Chamberlin’s announcement that was broadcasted on the radio in 1939.

This week Acer have worked really hard to complete their assessments, they approached them with positivity and should be very proud of themselves. In Talk for Writing, they wrote diary entries about the night they saw The Captain at the beach, they wrote about how they felt using their senses and adventurous vocabulary.
