WELCOME BACK
We hope you all had an enjoyable half term break. As we start the last half term of this academic year, we would like to remind you that there are lots of events coming up so please take a look at the diary dates at the bottom of the newsletter.

YEAR 1 TRIP
Year 1 had a super time on their visit to Bridlington this week. They played seaside games and built sandcastles, before finishing off with an ice cream which is the perfect way to end a trip to the seaside!

UPCOMING VISITORS
The children in KS2 will be visited by the lifeguards from the leisure centre about water safety. The RNLI are also visiting Year 4 next week as part of their topic work.

WARMER WEATHER
As the summer season is upon us, warmer weather and sunshine can be expected this half term. Please ensure that your child has a sun hat/cap in school to wear when outside and a water bottle so they can stay hydrated. Children will be encouraged to refill their bottles during the day.
Please also make sure that suncream is applied before children come to school. Children can bring suncream with them to school (labelled with their name) but they must be able to apply it themselves. Staff are not permitted to apply cream to children.
All clothing items should also be labelled with names - in warmer weather layers such as cardigans are often discarded as the day progresses and unnamed items are difficult to reunite with their owners at home time!

NEW MEMBERS WANTED TO RESTART GROUP
Thank you to those parents who have been in touch to say they would be interested in helping to restart the Friends of Parkside PTA group. We will be in touch! With parent volunteers we could put on more events and experiences for children to enjoy as well as raising money for additional resources in the school.
We need as many volunteers as possible, so if you would like to get involved, please call or email the school office. Alternatively, please visit https://www.parkside.eriding.net/about-us/friends-of-parkside and complete the form.

PRELOVED COMING SOON!
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated clothes, toys and books so far for our preloved events. Just a reminder that we are now accepting all children's clothing and books, toys and games, not just uniform. We hope this will help everyone with the cost of living and also do our bit for the planet by reusing and recycling.
Our last preloved event of the school year will be on Monday 26th June after school in the West studio. Come along and have a look to see if there is any uniform, clothing, books, toys or games that you would like to take home for free. You do not have to have donated an item to take something away.

WHEN IS TOO ILL FOR SCHOOL?
It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell. However, there are Public Health and Government Guidelines for schools and parents/carers that state when children should be kept off school and when they can still attend.
Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
Should I keep my child off school checklist poster (publishing.service.gov.uk)
If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone the school on the first day of illness to let us know that they will not be attending, together with the reason for their non-attendance. As per our Parkside Primary School attendance policy, it is requested that if your child is absent from school for 10 sessions (5 days) through illness or for all pupils whose attendance is below 92% then medical evidence is required to avoid the absence being marked as unauthorised and incurring a fine.
If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, please let their teacher know.
ERYC Public Health, who have access to school attendance data, monitor and analyse absences recorded by schools particularly for those pupils with 3 or more absences within a school year to ascertain if the absences are genuine or an indication of other unknown reasons for concern.
Please help your child reach their maximum potential by ensuring they are at school on time every day.
If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.
