Digital Trust and Security Seminar Guest Series - Wendy Jephson A digital futures event

The Centre for Digital Trust and Security, part of Digital Futures, were delighted to welcome Wendy Jephson, CEO & Co-Founder of LetsThink and former Head of Research & Ideation - Market Technology, Nasdaq, for a special guest seminar in March 2022. The seminar was kindly co-hosted by the FinTech group at the Alliance Manchester Business School and participants from a wide variety of research areas joined with others for from industry on the top floor of the Business School for a fascinating discussion and networking.

Wendy Jephson's wide-reaching talk explored how technological and data analytic advances over the past few decades have fundamentally changed how we work. Each has driven the other forward with larger datasets requiring both technological innovation and technological innovation, resulting in the creation of more data. New and continually developing skill sets have emerged and the recognition of the necessity for interdisciplinary collaboration is rising. Even so, there is a strong direction towards the automation of tasks and replacement of apparently fallible human intelligence with artificial intelligence wherever possible. Wendy highlighted some of the problems created from this evolution, including automation bias and the loss of expertise and its development. Wendy’s approach to this was to start with the people, seeing them at the heart of knowledge work and leveraging human intelligence to design in a way that engages people’s thinking. This event discussed the approach with examples of the journey so far.
