Men's Soccer Goes 2-1 on the Week, Earns NESCAC Victory Over Trinity

Colby traveled to Gordon College on Tuesday for a non-conference match, coming away with a 2-0 victory.

The Mules traveled to Trinity Saturday, taking home its second consecutive 2-0 victory behind two goals from sophomore Ethan Franco. On Sunday, Colby returned home for a matchup with the Camels of Conn. College, falling short 1-0 for their first NESCAC loss of the season.

Ethan Franco scored the opening goal against Thomas on Tuesday and both goals against Trinity on Saturday. He now has four goals in the first four games.

Field Hockey Wins Two on the Road, Earns First NESCAC Win at Conn.

In a week that saw Colby play three games in six days, the Mules traveled across town early in the week to take a 2-0 victory over Thomas College before entering their first NESCAC weekend.

Colby faced the Bantams of Trinity Saturday, suffering their first setback of the season 4-1. The Mules bounced back Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Camels of Conn. College.

Sandrine Brien netted her first collegiate goal one minute into play against Thomas. The first-year added a hat trick against Conn., with all three goals coming in the first half.

Football Opens the Season at Home Against Wesleyan, Fall Short 21-5

In a spirited matchup between the Mules and the visiting Cardinals, Colby held tight early on behind a strong defensive unit. Forcing two punts and two turnovers on downs, Colby was able to maintain field position and score the first points of the afternoon on a 29-yd Field Goal by Moises Celaya.

Wesleyan stayed committed to their balanced offensive attack, turning big plays into scores and creating separation prior to the half. Junior wide receiver Matt Panker helped keep the Mules within striking distance, converting five of his seven receptions for first downs, collecting 83 yards on the afternoon. A late touchdown put the Cardinals comfortably ahead as the clock wound down.

First year Julian Young paced the Mules on defense from his linebacker position with six total tackles, four of which were solo.

Women's Soccer Ties Trinity, Falls to Conn.

Colby went on the road for back to back NESCAC contests Saturday and Sunday. The Mules fought the Bantams of Trinity to a 0-0 draw to open the weekend before falling to the Camels of Conn. College Sunday, 2-0. Goalkeeper Emily McMaster had 11 saves against Trinity, followed by 12 more against Conn.

First year keeper Emily McMaster leads the NESCAC with 27 saves in three games, posting two shutouts in three opportunities on the season.

Golf Earns a Pair of 3rds on the Weekend

The Colby Golf team finished 3rd of six teams Saturday at the Thomas Invitational, and maintained form Sunday to finish 3rd out of eight teams at the UMF Classic. At UMF, the Mules had three golfers in the top-10, all tied seven strokes behind the leader.

Senior Nolan Burke led the Mules last weekend at Middlebury, and was the top scorer Saturday at Thomas. Burke shot a 75, good for 7th on the day.

Men's Tennis Competes Against 6 Teams at the Middlebury Invitational

Without team scoring, the Middlebury Invitational featured elimination brackets across four singles flights and two doubles flights. Singles matches were won by four different Mules, with first year Jake Cohen advancing to the finals of the B flight. Cohen teamed with Joey Barrett to advance to the semifinals in the doubles A flight.

First year Jake Cohen won five total matches on the weekend, advancing to the finals in singles and semifinals in doubles.

Volleyball Faces Tough Challenge on the Road, Suffered First Setbacks of 2021

After starting the season 4-0 for the first time since 2012, Colby entered its first NESCAC weekend on the road. A tough Middlebury team took Friday night's match over the Mules 3-0, and Amherst took Saturday's contest by the same score.

Sophomore Hannah Wyllie has led the Mules in kills five times this season. She ranks in the top-10 in the NESCAC in hitting percentage and kills per set and sits in fifth in points per set.
