WGPS's Special Holiday Family Dinner - Wednesday 21st December 2022

Staff have volunteered to prepare and server a very special dinner on WEDNESDAY 21ST DECEMBER 2022 for any of our families. This will be a HOT MEAL that will be served from 12pm to 2pm which will include lots of Christmas Cheer!! Everyone one is welcome to come and join us so bring the family along.

WGPS Super Stars of the Week

A HUGE WELL DONE!! Below are our WGPS SUPER STARS OF THE WEEK in Assemblies so far in November 2022. Each week in our WGPS Assemblies we give the WGPS SUPER STARS OF THE WEEK awards to pupils who have been outstanding in school and also achieved special awards outside of school too.

Any child that gains a 'Star of The Week' also sits at the 'Captain's Table' on a Monday which has special treats, tablecloths, posh glasses to make it extra special.

Attendance

At WGPS we are committed to promote a culture of high expectations, achievement and excellence. Good attendance is crucial if students are to take advantage of the opportunities available to them and complete a successful journey through their time at our school as they move on into higher education or the world of work.

WGPS's Attendance for Autumn Term 1 (September to October 2022) was:

94.4%

Let's see if we can beat the above attendance during Autumn Term 2 (November to December 2022) for Attendance.

Autumn 2 Term 100% Attendance - The School Council have decided that the prize for Autumn 2 Term 100% Attendance will be Lucky Dip Christmas Gifts.

DECEMBER ATTENDANCE AWARDS - For every child who achieves 100% attendance for each week in December (Weeks commencing 5th December 2022 and 12th December 2022) will be able to choose a special treat from our Attendance Goodie Bag.

Arbor App

Just a reminder to ensure ALL parents/carers download the ARBOR APP.

WGPS uses the Arbor School Management/Communication System. The systems allows parents/carers to receive emails/letters/in app messages, to make payments for dinners/trips/after school clubs, book parent evening slots and see your child's attendance, behaviour and progress etc. If you upload the ARBOR APP and log into your account you will be able to gain access to all the information school sends out, so you never miss out on school events. If you have any problems logging in to your ARBOR account, please contact the School Office on telephone number 01226 286510 for further assistance.

Admissions to School

Just a reminder the CLOSING DATE for ADMISSIONS TO PRIMARY SCHOOL is 15TH JANUARY 2023.

If your child is born between 1st September 2018 to 31st August 2019 then your child requires a school place from SEPTEMBER 2023. You will therefore need to apply online for your child's Primary School place via Barnsley Council's School Admissions Team. Y6 Crucial Crew Trip

Y6 pupils went on their CRUCIAL CREW trip on TUESDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2022. The children took part in the Crucial Crew 2022 Project which is an event organised by the South Yorkshire Police, Fire and Rescue and also South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership held at the Lifewise Centre at Kea Park Close Hellaby. This purpose-built setting provides the means to educate visitors to Crucial Crew in an interactive setting about safety and citizenship with the ultimate aim of reducing crime and improving quality of life. Children take part in scenarios which could happen to them in everyday life eg. fire, road safety, vandalism, online safety etc. They all had an amazing adventure on the day.

Children In Need Day & HCAT's T T Rockstars Competiton Day

On FRIDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2022 WGPS celebrated BOTH Children In Need Day AND we also held HCAT's T T ROCKSTARS COMPETITION DAY as well!!!!!

Thank you to all who gave a donation of the day for Children In Need - we raised £218.90 on the day for the charity.

Rudolph Run

THANK YOU again for your wonderful support with our BARNSLEY HOSPICE RUDOLPH RUN. Children have been doing their Rudolph Run in their PE lessons during this week commencing 28TH NOVEMBER (Year 5 classes will be completing their run during week commencing 5TH DECEMBER 2022). They have been dressing up as reindeers with antlers and red noses which they have worn with pride. We will update you in January's Newsletter with the amount raised once all the events have taken place and monies have been collected.

Christmas Market

We are having our WGPS's Christmas Market on FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2022 from 2pm. Children have been busy making their items to sell on their classroom stalls at the Christmas Market. We will have music playing, singing around school and other stall holders at the event. Festive refreshments will also be served by our Catering Staff on KS1 playground. We hope you all enjoy the event and thank you for sharing Christmas Cheer with us on the day.

SANTA'S GROTTO - There will be limited number of visits to Santa's Grotto, therefore, tickets will be available to purchase for £2 PER CHILD from the School Office from 2pm on the day. Children will be able to visit Santa's Grotto which will be in Miss Eyre's room.

Toy Christmas Appeal

BIG THANK YOU to everyone for your immense generosity over the past few months by giving donations to all the causes/charities that we have been supporting in school.

One of our Year 6 pupils asked if school could support her request to give as many toys as possible towards the Barnsley Hospital Charity. This will ensure that any children who are having to stay in Barnsley Hospital over the Christmas period will be able to have Christmas gifts and bring a smile to their faces. WGPS is so proud of our pupils, parents/carers and the community for all the generosity that has being given to others less fortunate.

School Panto

On MONDAY 5th DECEMBER 2022 WGPS will be having BIG FOOT ENTERTAINMENT streaming their pantomime 'CINDERELLA' to ALL children in school during the day. The event is taking place in school and children will also be able to enjoy ice-cream at the event included in the price. The Panto costs £3.00 per child which can be paid on the ARBOR APP.

Y3 & Y4 Carol Concert

On MONDAY 12TH DECEMBER 2022 at 2PM Year 3 and Year 4 children will be hosting a Christmas Carol Concert for their Year 3/4 parents/carers. They will be singing carols in the School Hall starting at 2PM and you will be welcomed via the Community Entrance door.

Christmas Nativities & Concert Dates

As part of WGPS's Christmas Festivities, we will be holding the following events in school over the next couple of weeks:

TUESDAY 13TH DECEMBER 2022 - FS1 & FS2 Nativity at 10AM

WEDNESDAY 14th DECEMBER 2022 - KS1 Christmas Concert at 2PM

THURSDAY 15TH DECEMBER 2022 - KS1 Christmas Concert at 9.30AM

THURSDAY 15TH DECEMBER 2022 - FS1 & FS2 Nativity at 2PM

Christmas School Dinner

WGPS's Christmas School Dinner will be on WEDNESDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2022. Please see the menu and dinner options below which can be ordered on the day at morning registration in class. Christmas Jumpers can also be worn on this day too!!!

Also, please note that, on the last day of Autumn 2 Term FRIDAY 16TH DECEMBER 2022 the School Lunch Menu will be: Hot Dinner = Burger & Chips and Vegetarian Dinner = Quorn Burger & Chips. Please note that these are the only 2 dinner options on the day (NO JACKET POTATO or PASTA on this date).

Christmas Jumper Days

As mentioned above, all children can wear their Christmas Jumpers for WGPS's Christmas Dinner day on WEDNESDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2022 to make a truly wonderful festive celebration event for the children in school on the day!!!!!

Also, this year, WGPS will be celebrating CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY 2022 on THURSDAY 8TH DECEMBER 2022. All children are welcome to come to school wearing a Christmas Jumper/T-Shirt at school on this date.

Christmas Party

On FRIDAY 16TH DECEMBER 2022 all children will be having their Christmas Parties in school. Children are welcome to come to school dressed in their Christmas Party outfits on the day.

WGPS Breakfast Club

Remember that WGPS have a Breakfast Club in School for KS2 children which starts at 8am Monday to Friday costing £3.00 per child. WGPS's Breakfast Club offers your child a fabulous start to the school day in a morning with a delicious healthy breakfast as well as fabulous activities with smiling faces. Come and join us.

Sports & After School Sports Section

WGPS School's After School Clubs & YMCA Club

WGPS School's After School Clubs and YMCA Club details are below for the new Autumn 2 Term from November up to the Christmas Half Term Holiday. Please note, you MUST BOOK your child's place by making PAYMENT on ARBOR. Once all maximum places have been filled, the Arbor System will not allow any further payments due to the club being fully booked. You will therefore, have to try to book another date where there are spaces available. YMCA Club is FREE and no booking is required.

WGPS Sporting Calendar for 2022-23:

Children will be invited to attend a variety of sporting fixtures across the year involving Barnsley schools. The next fixtures planned to take place are:

PRIMARY SPORTS CLUB

The After School Multi-Sports Clubs run by Chris and Lee at Ward Green Primary School on Wednesday and Thursdays.

Children should be collected from the school reception at their pick up time and money should be paid on the day, directly to the sports coaches at pick up time.
