During this term in Literacy, we created two pieces of writing based on the book Holes.
Our first piece we used skills such as subordinate clauses and ambitious vocabulary to create a short narrative!
Our second piece we wrote an informal letter from Stanley to his mum all about Camp Green Lake. We used skills such as parenthesis to add an informal tone to our writing.
In maths we started our learning off with further developing our understanding and accuracy when using written methods for all four operations.
Then we moved onto to fractions, decimals and percentages where we learnt about multiplying whole numbers by fractions and also ordering and comparing decimals. .
Throughout this half term we have showed the school values of being resilient and independent when improving our arithmetic scores!
Throughout this half term we have also applied our skills to a number of different real-life contexts and we have challenged the pupils to tackle problem solving and reasoning tasks.
This half term we have had a DT focus of Top Gear!.
First of us all to hook us into our learning we had a visit from an Aston Martin Vantage and we also received a letter from Aston Martin asking us to create, design and evaluate an electric car.
We created a mood board to explore different design features and car parts. Then we explored nets and joining mechanisms to help us to create the shell of our vehicle.
We learnt lots of impressive DT skills to help us manufacture our car. These included accurate measuring, cutting, sanding, joining and designing to create an aesthetically pleasing end product.
We added electric components to the car in order to make it move.
We then evaluated our final product and decided what we would do if we were to do it again. Please see your child’s Seesaw to see their final product and give feedback on it.
