ITA Senior Player of the Year Award

Juan Ortiz Couder from Embry-Riddle University has been named the 2022 ITA Senior Player of the Year.

Playing from the Eagles No. 1 position, Couder achieved an 18-5 singles record from the No. 1 position this season, including wins over Saint Leo, Valdosta State, Barry, Flagler, and Lynn.

With his efforts, Couder helped Embry-Riddle achieve its highest team ranking in program history, while he ranked within the Top-20 in both singles and doubles throughout the season.

In the community, Couder has done over 50+ career hours of community service between the ERAU campus & Daytona Beach communities, with events including but not all-inclusive: Mutt Strutt, Humane Society, Florida Tennis Center Kids Day, Beach clean up, Campus Clean up, and many more.

Couder graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA in his Master's in Software Engineering and maintains a 4.0 GPA while working on his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

In my 27 years of college coaching, I can safely say, Juan “Juancho” Ortiz Couder is one of my all-time favorite student-athletes that I have had the privilege to coach.

Juancho is one of those unique student-athletes that you enjoy having on your team and can build a whole team around, and it is my privilege to be his coach.
