Poietès visio-poiesis workshop

“Giving to the other to be read is also a leaving to be desired, or a leaving the other room for an intervention by which she will be able to write her own interpretation: the other will have to be able to sign in my text. And it is here that the desire not to be understood means, simply, hospitableness to the reading of the other.” Derrida, I have a taste for the secret, 1997

Led and curated by Gesualdi | Trono

Community reading aloud can give rise to a space of re-encounter - understood as gratitude, reciprocity, revelation, knowledge, promise, encounter, resonance, and understanding. The page of the book becomes a home in common. The words console us and, at the same time, encourage new questions. In listening to each other, we renew that poetic pact that calls us all to the responsibility of looking.

Starting from the analysis of the mechanism of evocation and appearance entrusted to the spoken word, which constitutes the basis of the work Chorea Vacui and many other works by Teatringestazione, we will share a path of creation, which, decontextualised from its productive function, gives rise to an unprecedented encounter, aimed at making the vision a collective experience. We will rely on participatory reading and then move from the text to the space surrounding us, where the word becomes geometry and vision manifests itself. We will practise the description of the visible and the invisible. We will discover that seeing is writing, naming is creating.

We summon the participants to perform a collective athletic gesture, launched headlong between the lines, in the aerobic rush of the voice, carried by the flow of the discourse, chasing the words, ready to change pace, articulating the length of the steps in the cadence of the sentences. And in a final burst, passing the testimony of the images evoked of a new landscape to another mouth.

The aim is to recover sight, dilate the gaze, and open the eyes wide, giving them a voice.

We understand the genesis of the work not as an autarchic act, the realisation of a design preconceived, but as a disposition to formulate the living and pressing question that imposes itself among the elements and sources at hand.

In the moment of scenic creation, the elements offered in the space are read and arranged as parts of the discourse in a shared hermeneutic process, leading to the unveiling of an increasingly articulated and complex level of the question underlying the structure of the work.

The written word is observed as space, where we find our place. Between the eyes that scan it, the breath that pushes it and the tongue that tames it, the poietès becomes stature and body.

What if my voice remains just a simple letter?

The workshop is aimed at all age groups, interests, experiences, communities of citizens or fragile subjects, theatre professionals and non-performers.

Its articulation and variation are adapted to the type of participants, location, and schedule to be agreed with the host structure.

It can take place in formal and non-formal spaces, indoors or outdoors.

The duration can be condensed into an intensive formula of two or more days or spread over several appointments over a longer period.

In agreement with the hosting space and following its programming, an outcome open to the public may or may not be envisaged.
