Year 2 Project Proposal FARAZ

My starting Point is Architecture

Initial Project Outline

My initial plan over the course of the project is to create a concept city with a blast from the past of ancient Middle Eastern / South Asian architectural practises fused together with modern Western influences with the mindset of futurism seen being used in the Disney's 'Tomorrowland' movie. This concept city will be more of a tourist attraction/holiday destination therefore I am planning to promote this city via brochures or social media such as Instagram or even a dedicated website.

Critical links:

Zaha Hadid - Architect

Zaha Hadid was an Iraqi-born British architect. Hadid took a degree in mathematics at the American University of Beirut and trained at London’s Architectural Association. There she met the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, with whom she worked until she established her own firm in 1979. Her building designs inspired by modernist movements including Cubism, Futurism, Suprematism, and Constructivism were characterized by a sense of fragmentation, instability, and movement.

Reva bhatt - Stylist

Reva Bhatt is a multi-hyphenate artist that has done work across Creative Direction, Styling, Casting and Brand Consulting. Her work centers disrupting monolithic narratives and decolonizing the gaze through multi-disciplinary storytelling. Inspired by her South Asian identity, she experiments with the way visual culture can educate, shape & express the world around us. She wants to simply create impactful are, regardless of the format.

Hossien Amanat - Architect

Hossein Amanat is an Iranian-Canadian architect. He is best known for being the architect of the Shahyad Tower in Tehran, Iran, the Baháʼí Arc buildings in Haifa, Israel and the House of Worship in Samoa. He has also been designated as the architect of the future Shrine of ʻAbdu'l-Bahá.

Over the past decades, the monument has played iconographic backdrop to a diverse array of political and social movements. This first architectural project led to the opportunity to create some of Iran's most distinctive projects with reference to traditional Persian architecture

Iris Van Herpen - Designer

Thomas Heatherwick - Architect

Heatherwick was born in London in 1970. As his entry in the Design Museum notes, “His mother a collector and dealer in beads influenced his aesthetic development while his father introduced him to architecture and design.” He studied 3D design at Manchester Polytechnic, graduating in 1991. He then completed a degree at the Royal Academy of Art, founding his studio soon after graduating.

Rajasthan Architecture

The Rajasthan architecture is an outstanding arrangement o f colonial, Islamic and Hindu architecture. Rajasthan stays as one among the major tourist spot in India carrying a lavish architectural heritage. Between the years of 1830 and 1930, well heeled Marwaris built gigantic buildings in Narwar and Shekhawati region.

Personal Study..

For my personal study, I plan to write how ancient architectural (not just from south Asia / Middle Eastern) practises are used over time and even todays buildings. - Form over function?

Photographs

Iraq

These pictures are taken the mosques that are located in Iraq. The elaborate designs and patterns can be seen as a common theme throughout the photos. The walls of the inside of the mosque are adorned with geometric patterns as of the Islamic custom to emphasise Allah's (God's) beauty and wonder in his creations.

How I plan to develop my ideas..

I plan to develop my ideas through using physical mediums such as paper and clay to create and experiment with different shapes that could potentially be seen the city.

I would then pencil and paper to draw the forms created by the physical mediums and then would further refine the sketches through illustrator and/or Photoshop.

To take a step further, I could further develop my ideas into a 3D plane using software's such as Tinker CAD to further develop the ideas into illustrator and/or photoshop.

Final Piece Ideas..
