Review: Dog 2022 By: Dayna Baker

A serious comedy film. Channing Tatum [Briggs] is a discharged Army Ranger recovering from a brain injury, he wants to do a security guard course but needs clearance from his former C.O. Suffering from a serious brain injury, the Army now wants nothing to do with him. Lulu [a Belgian Malinois] is a 7 year, temperamental combat, former Army Ranger. Both on the journey to attend her handler's funeral in Arizona. Along the way is a bunch of troublesome chaos. Directed by Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin, Written by Carolin and Brett Rodriguez. Also rated PG-13.

This movie is pretty good. The dog was beautiful, hilarious and performed wonderfully. Lulu and Briggs ended up being a great duo. It honestly tells you the point of view of a veteran's life and how people respect them.

Some scenes showed the condition of his health. He is currently healing from a brain injury due-to previous wars. I personally think it was a great touch of the reality of a discharged Army Ranger.

When Lulu and Briggs first met it was pretty comedic. Briggs went inside of Lulu’s big crate and found out after petting her ear that it was a soft spot. It’s really the theme during the whole movie.

Another extremely good scene is after they visited Lulu’s sibling’s house, their car was robbed! Lulu and her sibling indicate really how smart these Army Rangers are at detecting looters. Also just throughout the movie Lulu shows that some and probably most of these dogs have anxiety from their past. I think it’s a pretty nice touch.

This movie had one of the best endings. Lulu and Briggs had eventually made it to the funeral for Lulu’s handler. Lulu had rested her head on the handler’s shoes which touched the heart a bit. However what touched me the most was after the funeral. The agreement was after the funeral they put the dog down. When Briggs drove away while Lulu was jerking away from the men it was very heart-breaking.

Despite the movie being more dram-edy than you’re maybe used to, it’s still a touchy, entertaining film. Also if you’re planning on bringing a kid, there is some light cursing and a scene with yoga ladies that was kind of inappropriate.

Overall the movie was great! It could have been a shorter film, it could have been a quicker pace, but it has a good message and heart-warming moments.
