George Fisher Scholar-Athlete Award Finalists
Our first finalist is Emily Dulaney from volleyball. Emily is a nursing major with a 3.95 grade point average.
Our next finalist is Bridget Duven from swimming. Bridget is a Hispanic studies major with a 3.88 grade point average.
Our next finalist is Emily Metzler from rowing. Emily is a sociology major with a 3.88 grade point average.
Our next finalist is Vivian Shinall from soccer. Vivian is a communication major with a 3.99 grade point average
George Fisher Scholar-Athlete Award Finalists
The George Fisher Scholar-Athlete Award is presented to the top senior male and female student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade point average.
Our first finalist is Keegan Dolan from soccer. Keegan is a senior philosophy major with a 3.96 grade point average.
Our next finalist is Trey Robak from cross country and track & field. Trey is a business administration major with a 3.94 grade point average.
Our next finalist is Daniel Samson from cross country and track & Field. Danny is a political science major with a 3.95 grade point average.

Newcomer of the Year Award
Our first finalist is Julia Causbie from soccer and track & field. Julia was a Second Team All-Conference selection in the fall, helping the Lutes win the NWC title for the fifth straight season. Julia was second on the team in goals, assists, and points. This spring, Julia was runner-up at the NWC Championships in the 400-meter hurdles, the long jump, and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. Julia additionally placed third as a member of the 4x100-meter relay and was fourth in the triple jump.
Our next finalist is Hannah Cecil from soccer. Hannah was a First Team All-Conference selection and the NWC Freshman of the Year, leading the Lutes in both goals and points. Hannah was third in the conference in scoring with seven goals, helping the Lutes win their fifth consecutive NWC title.
Our next finalist is Clara Froeschner from rowing. A transfer from Drake University in Iowa, Clara was a member of the Lutes’ varsity eight boat that won the program’s sixth consecutive conference title. Clara was an All-Conference Award winner and won NWC Crew of the Week three times this spring. Clara was a part of the varsity eight boat that won races at the Logger Invite, Pioneer Invite, Lamberth Cup, and NWC Championships.
Our next finalist is Lily Luksich from track & field. Lily set school records in both the indoor pole vault and outdoor pole vault this season, winning the event at five meets this season. Lily was an Indoor All-West region selection and was runner-up in the pole vault at the NWC Championships in April. Lily was a two-time NWC Field Athlete of the Week award winner.
Newcomer of the Year Award
Our first finalist is Darius Chaffin from football and track & field. On the gridiron, Darius scored touchdowns on the ground, through the air, and on special teams, playing all nine games in the fall. In the spring, Darius was the NWC Champion in the javelin and ranks in the top 10 nationally in the event in Division III. Darius led the Lutes in kick return yards, averaging almost 24 yards a return and his javelin PR ranks as the fifth best in program history.
Our next finalist is Grady Lemma from track & field. Grady was the NWC Freshman of the Year after winning the NWC title in the 400-meter hurdles while placing third in the 110 meter hurdles and the decathlon. Graddy also ran a leg of the 4x400-meter relay to placed fourth at the conference championships.
Our next finalist is Joshua Clogston from golf. Josh was a First Team All-Conference award winner and the NWC Freshman of the Year. Josh placed ninth at the NWC Fall Classic in October before placing runner-up at both the NWC Spring Classic and the NWC Championships in April.

These 18 seniors earned their diploma frame last year but decided to come back for an additional year, taking advantage of the PLU plus year.
Laurie Turner Leadership Award
The Laurie Turner Leadership Award was created in 2021 in honor of former Athletic Director Laurie Turner who served at PLU from 2005 to 2019. This award is presented to student-athletes who have shown leadership in their sport programs, within the athletic department, and in the community.
Frosty Westering Inspiration Award
The Frosty Westering Lute Inspiration Award is presented on a non-annual basis to PLU individuals who, through their action and involvement, inspires athletes, coaches, and the campus community. The award is named after legendary Lute football coach Frosty Westering who coached at PLU from 1972 to 2003 and won four national titles.
L.U.T.E.S. Impact Award
The LUTES Impact Award is a new award this year, recognizing a student-athletes that embody the spirit of the PLU Athletics Department, living out the core values of leadership, unity, teamwork, excellence, and service. This individual is a star on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
Our first finalist is Hezekiah Goodwin of cross country and track & field. Heze is a two-time conference champion on the track while making an impact on campus and beyond, serving as a team captain, Residence Hall Association President, NRHH President, a member of Black Student Union, and an advocate for inclusion and anti-racism, leading conversations on campus and nationally at the NCAA convention.
Our next finalist is Connor Lemma from baseball. A quadruple major, Connor is the Lute SAAC President, is the student director for outdoor recreation, a peer tutor, a program assistant for the PLU center for student success, a math grader, and an admissions ambassador. Connor has volunteered with Special Olympics, Be the Match, and Team Impact.
Our next finalist is Kord Tuttle from football. Kord is a teaching assistant for the PLUS 100 class for first-year student-athletes, is a SAAC rep, a member of ROTC, and has the most volunteer hours of anyone on the PLU football team, including volunteering at the Christmas toy drive, a church playground revitalization, and PLU track & field meets.
Unsung Lute Award
Our first finalist is Peyton Moreland from football. Peyton transferred to PLU in 2019 from Trinity University before transitioning to team manager. A true servant warrior, Peyton embodied the “Lutes open doors” philosophy. Peyton was frequently seen holding the door open to Leraas for the entire football team while always being the last off the bus or out of the locker room, making sure things are in order before leaving. Peyton setup, broke down, and cleaned video equipment four days a week and is the glue of the PLu football program.
Our next finalist is Danny Samson from cross country and track & field. The current SAAC Vice-President and the President Elect for next year, Danny has been a tremendous leader and helped build a culture of care, hard work and enthusiasm. He is always there to support teammates and coaches in times of need. Danny is a rockstar when it comes to connecting with prospective students. He always finds time to connect and welcomes the recruits and makes them feel at home. It's clear that our programs are really important to Danny and he has invested an incredible amount of time and energy to help them be the best they can be - it is a coaches dream!
Our next finalist is Taylor Shigeta from softball. Taylor represented PLU at the NCAA Diversity Forum this year. Taylor constantly anticipates the needs of the team and helps everyone prepare, often at the expense of her own needs. Taylor is as selfless as it gets. The first person to help someone in need. Taylor is a servant warrior that works hard preparing pitchers in the bullpen, putting her own natural coaching strengths to work.
Athlete of the Year Award
Our first finalist is Bailey Forsyth from track & field. Bailey was the national champion in the 100-meters and 200-meters last spring at the NCAA Championships and is a two-time NWC Track Athlete of the Meet. Bailey won four conference titles over the past two years and this winter earned indoor All-American honors in both the 55-meters and 200-meters.
Our next finalist is Julez Johnson from rowing. Julez was an All-Conference selection this spring and a member of the Lutes’ varsity eight boat that won the program’s sixth straight NWC title. Julez won NWC Crew of the Week three times this spring, winning races at the Logger Invite, Pioneer Invite, Lamberth Cup, and NWC Championships.
Our next finalist is Jessica Ordaz from swimming. Jessica was the NWC Swimmer of the Year and the NWC Freshman of the Year this winter, winning seven conference titles and setting five school records. Jessica helped the Lutes win their seventh straight NWC dual meet title and became just the second Lute women’s swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships.
Athlete of the Year Award
Our first finalist is Seth Hall from basketball. Seth was an NABC All-American this winter, earning NWC Player of the Year accolades in addition to All-District and All-Region honors. Seth led the NWC in scoring and played in the NABC All-Star Game.
Our next finalist in Masum Real from track & field. Masum was the NWC Field Athlete of the Meet this spring, winning the conference title in the shot put and placing second in the discus. During the indoor season, Masum was a USTFCCCA All-West Region selection.
Our next finalist is Alex White from soccer. Alex was a First Team All-Conference selection and the NWC Defensive Player of the Year this fall, helping the Lutes win their fourth consecutive conference title. Alex was a CoSIDA Academic All-District award winner and helped the Lutes collect 14 shutouts during the season.
Lute Service Award
This year's Lute Service Award goes to assistant to the director Luann Corso. A Parkland native, Luann is retiring after working at the university for 22 years in various capacities, starting as a senior assistant in admissions and spending the past 11 years in the athletics department. Luann is the glue that keeps the department running.
Career Achievement Award
Our first finalist is Bailey Forsyth from track & field. Our next finalist is Bailey Hamilton from swimming. Bailey is a five-time conference champion and a 13-time All-Conference selection. This winter, Bailey won four conference titles and helped the Lutes win their seventh straight NWC dual meet title, extending the program’s dual meet win streak to 27.
Our next finalist is Erin McGrath from softball. Erin is a two-time 1st Team All-Conference selection and a three-time NWC Hitter of the Week. Erin ranks third in the nation in RBIs this spring and fourth nationally in home runs. This spring, Erin led the conference this spring in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, total bases, and runs.
Career Achievement Award
Our first finalist is Hezekiah Goodwin from cross country and track & field. Heze is a four-year letterwinner in cross country and a five-year letterwinner in track & field. Heze was the NWC Champion in the 800-meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase this spring. This fall he was Second Team All-Conference and All-Region. Heze helped the Lutes finish second at the NWC cross country championships three times.
Our next finalist is Seth Hall from basketball. Seth was the NWC Player of the Year this spring, helping the Lutes win their first conference title since 1986. Seth was a two-time All-West Region selection and an NABC All-American this spring. Seth scored 1,002 career points, averaging 17.3 points per game in a Lute uniform.
Our next finalist is Jordan Haworth from baseball. Jordan is a two-time All-Conference selection and an All-American last spring. Jordan ranks tied for first in program history in career home runs while ranking third in doubles, fourth in slugging percentage, and seventh in runs scored. Jordan started in 137 of the team’s 138 games over the past four seasons.
