Hello World Tech & Youth Services

There was a worthwhile and short webinar the other day on promoting Novel NY you can view it here: https://support.gale.com/doc/u-ny-marketing-07272022

I'll pass along some of what I found most interesting:

They have created a new librarian tool kit. You can view it here: https://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/novelny/toolkit.htm it includes their new logo, (if you need assistance updating the logo on your website just send me an email), Social Media images and text for promoting the different databases.

You can also include specific widgets for specific databases on your website. For example if you wanted a direct search through the Home Improvement database or a direct search through the NY Times.

One of the most interesting things I took away from the webinar is that you are allowed to post articles from Novel NY on your website or social media. For example:

Use a computer to do almost anything!

There is always that moment, when a patron asks for assistance in filling out an online form, signing up for an online course, or how do I make an online purchase. You begin to assist them only to find out that they don't have an email address or that they don't know how to use a mouse or keyboard. You want to help them, but your time is precious. PLA's new DigitalLearn can be a tool to keep in your back-pocket for times like these. https://www.digitallearn.org/ has a variety of easy to follow tutorials. For example:

  • Getting started with a computer--how to use a mouse and keyboard
  • New to email
  • Creating a Resume
  • Basics of video conferencing
  • Intro to Google Maps

Video Game Clubs of America

Their stated mission is to break down stereotypes and create safe spaces for all kids/students, and teach social emotional skills to help prepare them for college and/or careers.

Draw a Whale

An ocean of drawing possibilities, now I need an easy way to draw a cicada.

Heritage Quest

If you are looking for ways to promote some of your databases. This might be an opportunity.

The 1950 census, the first to include the Baby Boomer generation, has been released by the National Archives.

Lego Infinity Cube

45th anniversary of Star Wars
