Project 1: Research & Sketches
The first week of EID was all about researching what works in existing apps and laying down the groundwork for our month's project. I reviewed three of the better-rated apps I could find in the healthy eating category, then used that information to determine what core features are needed in my project. I also considered the context of the app and how changing the design could make my app a better experience for the users. There's a lot of text from the research that went into Project 1, so it gets its own page.
Project 2: Grids & Wires
For Project 2, we got to dive in to one of the newest programs for designing wireframes and mockups: Adobe Xd. It was exciting to make something that looked so much like a real application, but challenging to recreate how every screen would look on different devices using the standard interface parts.
Project 3: Style Guide & Data Visualization
In the third week we were tasked with making decisions about the color scheme, typography, and mood of our project and plot it all on to a style guide. We also created the logos and icons we'll be using for our projects. I tried to use green as the primary color to represent fresh, healthy foods, and used a tetrad to select the other colors, plus one. Since many of my interface components were rounded, I chose a rounded logo, fonts that feature simple circle shapes, and icons that have rounded corners.
Project 4: MockUps & Website Advert
Week 4 was the week for putting our wireframes and style guides together and throwing in quality images to create detailed mockups. It was a challenge, but also amazing to see my app design come to life more with each color and picture added. To finish it off, we also created a website advertisement design for our app to show off its features. I enjoyed learning how to make a stunning, modern webpage design in a quick way.
