Please take care this weekend and be aware of the weather warnings in place - curl up with a good book and stay safe!

WORLD BOOK DAY - NOW FRI 4TH MARCH

We will be celebrating World Book Day as a school on Friday 4th March. (Please note the change of date.) The national theme for 2022 is ‘You are a reader'. Children are invited to come to school dressed as a character from a book they feel represents them best as a reader. This may be someone from one of their favourite books, series of books or as a character they feel they are similar to/would like to be like!

On the day, the children will be taking part in a variety of activities including a 'booknic' (outdoor reading in the wilderness area - like a picnic but with books!) and virtual buddy reading. They will also be trying to 'Guess the Book' from the clues and hints that their teacher will be leaving around the classroom.

Activities to complete at home

Children are challenged to recreate a ‘Book in a Box’ at home before Thursday 3rd March. On the morning of World Book Day, the boxes will be displayed in each wing and the children will visit as classes throughout the morning. Will the children be able to guess which book has been represented? We hope the children have fun making their creations and we can't wait to see them! Please see below for some examples.

We are also running a reading challenge over the half term break. Children are challenged to complete as many reading challenges as possible. Completed entries will go into a prize draw for book vouchers. Click the button below to download the challenge sheet. Please return completed sheets to school by Friday 11th March.

URGENT - TRESPASSING ON RAILWAY LINES NEAR OUR SCHOOL

Due to the very high level of trespassing on the tracks by young people in our local area, Network Rail in partnership with Learn Live are working to help raise awareness to pupils.

We have been asked to urgently share the relevant safety videos with parents.

The session is less than 15 minutes and explains why it is important to stay safe near the tracks.

Over 14 million students, parents and teachers from across the UK have watched these videos which has led to a significant decrease in the number of trespasses in their area through watching the latest rail safety videos.

Remember 15 mins can help save lives.

They have made things easier for you to watch the free safety videos by just entering the email railsafety@learnliveuk.com into the 'I have registered' field when you first watch the videos.

Please click on the buttons below to view the safety videos (recommended age 7- 11 years)

TESTING

Please remember that LFD tests are for those without Covid-19 symptoms only. Please book a PCR test if you or your child displays any of the following:

  • a high temperature – this means your child may feel hot to touch on their chest or back (you do not need to take their temperature with a thermometer)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if they usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste – this means they may tell you that they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different.

To book a free PCR test, visit the NHS website or phone the NHS on 119.

You can book a test at a testing site, or by asking for a home testing kit to be sent in the post.

LOVE SHOULDN'T HURT

In recent weeks, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Humberside has run a media campaign aimed at preventing domestic abuse. The messages were developed with professionals working in support services and target those who commit abuse to encourage them to face up to the damage caused by their actions and seek help to change, in addition to supporting those affected by abusive behaviour.

Two websites now carry details of services available.

www.youarenotalone.online – help for people affected by domestic abuse

www.helptostop.online – getting help to change your abusive behaviour
