Please join us in celebrating Public Schools Week!

We’d like to take this opportunity to recognize the important contributions of all public schools, administrators, educators, school staff, specialists, parents, community members, and school board members who impact the education of our Nation’s 50 million public school students.

Thank you for all that you do for students and communities!

Congratulations to Carson "Fred" Sutherland!

Newberg High School (NHS) student, Carson "Fred" Sutherland, has been elected Vice President for the Lower Willamette District of Future Farmers of America (FFA). His one-year term of office began in February.

Sutherland, a NHS junior, currently serves as President of Newberg’s FFA Chapter. FFA is part of the Leadership Development portion of NHS’ Agricultural Science & Technology program and is associated with NHS’ Career Technical Education (CTE), a program that offers three pathways for students to explore college and careers. It also includes Applied Learning and a Supervised Agricultural Experience in areas such as Welding Technology, Plant Sciences (Horticulture, Forestry, Ecology), and Animal Sciences (Pre-Vet, Large/Small Animals).

Next year, many CTE classes will be taught in NHS’ new building.

Celebrate Women’s History Month!

From the National Women’s History Museum:

“Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history.

Did You Know? Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week . . .

In 1980, a consortium of women’s groups and historians—led by the National Women’s History Project (now the National Women's History Alliance)—successfully lobbied for national recognition. In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation declaring the Week of March 8, 1980 as National Women’s History Week. It wasn’t until 1995 that the full month of March was designated Women’s History Month.”

Bus Driver By Day, Rockstar By Night

When students in the Newberg Public Schools say their bus driver is a rock star, they aren’t kidding.

If you are a student on Brian Allen’s routes, you may already know about his “side” gig. Allen, a driver with Newberg since the early 2000s, has developed an international reputation from his work as the lead singer of the San Francisco-based death metal band, Trauma.
