What is Language of persuasion ?

Persuasion languages are those expressions that we use both formally and informally for having an impact on someone’s decisions or behaviors
  • It is commonly used to write formal writings like e.g. personal statements, or to influence a decision while in a conversation or a speech

Formal writings

This type of writings is often used with formal letters and essays

There are mainly two types of formulations:

Passive constructions:

  • Most experts in the field agree that...
  • The advantages of...strongly outweigh the disadvantages

First person:

  • There are three reasons why I hold this view...
  • The point I am making can be effectively illustrated by an example...

Formal speech

This speech often uses two methods to make language more polite, which are:

Modal verbs:

  • I think you might...
  • How can I persuade you to...?

Questions and adverbs:

  • Are you quite sure you...?
  • Possibly the most sensible thing would be to...

Informal & neutral speech

For informal and neutral speech, as in formal speech, there are two methods to make language more informal, which are:

Short and simple structures:

  • Do it for my sake!
  • Please!

Giving advice structures:

  • I really think you should...
  • You’d be well advised to...
