Mr Bailey's Head of School Update
The nights have drawn in and the temperatures have dropped at the end of what has been a busy winter term. Once again at the end of a successful term, we find ourselves reflecting on the underpinning values of our community; ambition, aspiration, courage, and respect.
The ambition of the enrichment offer at TMA is world-class, with the Arts faculty always leading the way. The height of this ambition came to light towards the end of term when we saw a large group of TMA students attend the Royal Opera in London.
Aspiration of our current GCSE cohort continues to impress. Feedback from the weekly career conversations that our Year 11s have always impress, coupled with the focus shown throughout the mocks, there is a high chance that those aspirations are realised next summer on results day!
Seeing the whole school community pay their respects to those that have fallen during our Remembrance Service was an extremely proud moment for me as Head of School. Listening to our students stand in front of their peers, teachers, and external visitors and portraying a message of respect and tolerance was very moving. The courage to stand and talk to a large group of people is commendable and an essential skill in leadership, well done to all those students.
Here's to a merry Christmas and a happy new year to all members of the TMA community
Ms Willmot's Executive Principal Update
This half term has been an important time for culture building at TMA. We recognise that successful and happy schools deliver more than just teaching and learning- they are at the heart of their comminuty. We started the half term with our first ever Halloween disco- an evening of fancy dress, party games and treats kept us all entertained. We had so much fun that we have already started to plan our Valentine's disco!
We held our biggest ever Remembrance event in November. We were so proud of the poignant service; you can read more about this below.
As Christmas approaches, the 'culture calendar' is full of activities. This month, we have held a food bank appeal; Christmas accessory day; lunchtime karaoke; opera trip; rewards assemblies and Christmas services.
The Regional School's Commissioner, and members of her senior team from the Department of Education, visited us in November. They were delighted with the proress the academy is making and were so complimentary about our wonderful students who articulately shared their positive stories of TMA.
It's been another busy, successful half term at Thomas Middlecott. Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing all students back at TMA on Wednesday 4th January.
A Day at the Opera
We've been to the Royal Opera House!
In November, staff and students were offered the opportunity to travel to London to wach a performance of Tosca at the Royal Opera House. We were delighted to be able to offer this trip at no cost to students as we believe enriching cultural experiences such as these should be available to all.
Remembrance Event 2022
On Friday 11th November, we held our biggest ever Remembrance event at Thomas Middlecott. Guests and dignitaries joined us as the whole school gathered on the playground.
Students read poems, the choir performed and poppy cannons showered students with petals. The last post was played by an ex-student of TMA and our Vicar and Mrs Baldwin led us in prayer. Students observed the whole event in silence.
We will remember them.
Christmas Accessory Day
On Friday 9th, we allowed students to wear a Christmas jumper or any Christmas themed accessories with their uniform in exchange of a donation for the local foodbank.
We filled an entire stock room with your donations and were so humbled by your generosity. You can access more information about the Boston foodbank here:
Thank you for supporting us to make sure no-on in our community goes hungry this Christmas .
A reminder that the term ends at 12.25pm on Friday 16th December. Buses and taxis have been informed and will collect students no later than 12.45pm. Students eligible for free school meals will be able to take a packed lunch home with them.
We are looking forward to seeing all students back with us as normal on Wednesday 4th January 2023.
