A season to remember Coaches pay tribute to the class of 2022

Story by Ashton Lux Photos by Lauryn Olivarez

From your freshman 6-5 campaign, you’ve worked hard.

When you went 4-6 your sophomore year, you worked hard.

In your 7-3 junior year, you worked hard.

Your hard work has paid off with an 11-4 season your senior year, culminating in a state semifinal berth.

Seniors saw a 6-0 start to the season, then a three-game losing streak that left them having to win their last game to just barely make the playoffs. They were the underdog in Round 1, then Round 2, and on all the way to the state semifinals.

Now the class of 2022 has forever left its legacy not only on the field but in the hallways, on the community and on each and every single coach that was a part of this historic, once-in-a-lifetime run.

The coaching staff shares their final thoughts on this amazing season, and the seniors who made it happen.

To Class of 2022: Thank you for teaching me the power of belief. From Day 1 you believed in each other, your coaches, our culture, and everything about our program. Even when adversity struck, your belief was always there. You showed that when a team comes together and truly believes, then magical things can happen. #WeBelieve

The season marks the first state appearance for Tomball football since the 1980s.

The Class of 2022 has set the standard for the teams of the future. Through their hard work, character and belief in themselves they went where many people never gave them chances to. This is a group that will be talked about for years to come and rightfully so.

Students and faculty were carried along on the emotional ride.

Scott Reid -

The culture and legacy you have built for others to follow does not end, it will continue on in your lives as you embark on your future. It’s what we do!

Brandon Mikolajczyk -

Seniors, thank you so much for a wonderful year & allowing me to be a part of it. We accomplished goals that have not been present here at THS in a really long time. You guys made a difference in this program, school & community & for that we are truly thankful. I will leave you all with this. Do not make this final football season & your accomplishments throughout your high school career the best thing you ever do. Continue to go out and make a difference in your family & in the world just as you did here. Impact people in a positive way, put one foot in front of the other and always always always WORK HARD! Love you guys!

Jonathan Short -

My final words to the Class of 2022 are Thank You. Thank you for your work to establish the culture of our Program. Thank you for establishing what Fast, Hard, Finish, Together means as our core values. Thank you for raising the expectations of our program and setting a new bar for the classes behind you. Thank you for your trust and work that you had and put into this season and your time here. And thank you for the relationships that we will always have with you.

Nobody expected the Cougars to post such a memorable season.

What a great year to move to Tomball, Texas and be a part of Tomball football. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your journey this year, this amazing, historic season. The most impressive thing for me about this season wasn’t how many games we won or how big of a margin of victory we had but how you won the games that you won. The way you acted on and off the field, a great coach once said “”this team is not here for your glory, you are here for this team's glory”” I think that all of you, each and everyone one of you live that out on the field and off the field. You are selfless and I think that is the biggest secret to the success here in our culture, was the selflessness that you displayed on and off the field. Going forward a lot of you are going to be playing football, some of you are going on to be in the military, some of you will go on to the workforce, some of you will go straight into college without knowing exactly what you are going to do but for all you I want to give a small piece of advice. Look for your purpose, and the only thing that does not have an expiration date.

Many of the starters were seniors, whose last game came in the state semifinals.

Mike Zierlein -

Congratulations on completing the first part of your journey through life. Best of luck in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue and remember to always leave any situation as well as the world a better place than you found it.

Kyle Tidwell -

Y’all have accomplished many great things this year. With hard work, being focused, and never giving up. Keep those qualities as you go into the next phase of your life. You will be able to accomplish many things.

Chase Reneau -

Many times people wish time would fly by without knowing it is flying by.

Many times people don’t realize they are in the good old days, until after they are already out of the good old days.

Many times you don’t realize it’s the last time you will see someone until you’ve already seen them for the last time.

The class of 2022 will forever have an impact on Tomball HS, the community, underclassmen, coaches, and myself. I believe the season is the start of many successes from this class. Thanks for the memories. They will be cherished forever.

Ugonna Chinasa -
